Biography

Dr. Ren earned his Ph.D. in Electronic and Information Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in 2018. In 2022, he joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at PolyU as a Research Assistant Professor. Prior to this role, Dr. Ren was a (Distinguished) Postdoctoral Fellow from 2018 to 2022, working in the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering at PolyU and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan.

Dr. Ren, along with his teammates, won the Grand Prize (Innovation Category) and the First Prize (Materials, Chemistry, Energy Category) in the 7th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. He has published over 70 papers in prestigious peer-reviewed journals, including Nature Energy, Nature Photonics, Nature Communications, Light: Science & Applications, Joule, Advanced Materials, and Advanced Energy Materials, etc. His Google Scholar h-index is 29, with over 3,600 citations. Dr. Ren's research interests are primarily focused on renewable energy and the environment, materials science, and future energy technologies. His specific areas of interest include:

  1. Advanced materials for green energy harvesting and storage
  2. Tandem functional energy devices for sustainable applications
  3. Perovskite and organic semiconductors for optoelectronics
  4. Functional flexible electronics
