Biography
Dr. Tan brings a wealth of expertise in the field of maintenance of major engineering assets, with a distinguished career spanning military aircraft and fixed railway infrastructure and systems.
Currently serving as the Principal Fellow of Permanent Way and Vice President of Building & Facilities at Singapore’s pioneer rail company, SMRT Corporation, Dr. Tan plays a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of critical transportation infrastructure. In addition to overseeing engineering asset maintenance, he leads a dynamic team dedicated to integrating cutting-edge technologies to enhance asset reliability for SMRT Trains.
Under Dr. Tan's visionary leadership, significant advancements have been achieved through the strategic application of digitalisation and IoT technologies. His pioneering efforts have led to the successful implementation of fully automated condition monitoring systems, facilitating the transition to predictive maintenance for vital railway assets within SMRT.
For the past eight years, Dr. Tan has fostered a fruitful collaboration with the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Together, Dr. Tan and HKPU have spearheaded the development and operation of the Train Track Condition Monitoring system, demonstrating Dr. Tan's commitment to innovation and knowledge exchange.
Dr. Tan is an alumnus of Cranfield University, UK, where he earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree. He holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Singapore and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
With his profound expertise, unwavering dedication, and collaborative spirit, Dr. Tan continues to drive excellence in engineering asset management, shaping the future of transportation infrastructure in Singapore and beyond.
