Dual Master of Science in Financial Engineering and Quantitative Finance & FinTech offered by New York University and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

We are excited to announce the launch of a groundbreaking dual Master's degree programme in Financial Engineering and Quantitative Finance & FinTech, offered in collaboration between the Department of Finance and Risk Engineering at the Tandon School of Engineering, New York University (NYU), and the Department of Applied Mathematics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). Starting in the 2024/25 academic year, this innovative programme is open for applications from the 2024/25 intake cohort. The first group of PolyU students will have the unique opportunity to study at NYU during the 2025/26 academic year. This dual degree programme combines the strengths of both institutions, providing students with a comprehensive education that bridges the fields of finance, engineering, and technology, preparing them for leadership roles in the rapidly evolving financial landscape.

The programme is designed as a non-reciprocal collaboration (outgoing only). Teaching will be conducted in Hong Kong and New York City in the first and second year respectively. Students who fulfil the graduation requirement will be awarded master’s degrees’ parchments from both PolyU and NYU.

Upon successful completion of the Dual Degree Programme, students shall be awarded two degrees: One from PolyU, stating "Master of Science in Quantitative Finance and FinTech", and another from NYU, stating "Master of Science in Financial Engineering".

Students admitted to PolyU’s MSc in Quantitative Finance and FinTech programme in the 2024/25 academic year and beyond (program code: 63029) are eligible to apply for this Dual Master's Degree.

Tuition fee

Year 1 at PolyU: HK$216,000

Year 2 at NYU: US$ 56,000*

* Remarks:

- The published tuition rates are inclusive of applicable taxes and are based on the normal course load without considering exceeded credits.

- The students shall assume full financial liability for any expenses incurred as a result of retaking failed subjects or voluntarily taking extra credits beyond the required curriculum.


Graduation requirements and parchments

  1. Students in the Dual Degree Programme will first register at PolyU and complete 18 credits of compulsory subjects and the 1-credit Academic Integrity and Ethics Requirement (AIE) subject – ‘Academic Integrity and Ethics in Business’ at PolyU’s main campus at Hung Hom during the first year. In the second year, students are required to complete 24 credits and fulfil other non-credit bearing requirements at NYU Tandon School of Engineering at Brooklyn.
  2. Students enrolling on the Dual Degree Programme must fulfill all the required credits in order to meet the graduation conditions of both PolyU and NYU.
  3. Upon successful completion of the Dual Degree Programme, students shall be awarded two degrees: One from PolyU, stating "Master of Science in Quantitative Finance and FinTech", and another from NYU, stating "Master of Science in Financial Engineering".
  4. Students must enroll in 12 credits per semester in the NYU FRE programme.

Admission

Students enrolled in PolyU's MSc in Quantitative Finance and FinTech programme who meet the following English & GPA requirements are eligible to apply for admission to NYU's MSc in Financial Engineering programme in the second-year of study:

  • Obtain an overall band score of 7.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), OR a score of 100 or above in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Internet-based test; and
  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.225 or above out of 4.3 upon completion of the first-year study with 19 credits at PolyU.

Selected candidates will be invited to attend interviews hosted by PolyU's Department of Applied Mathematics (AMA). Details will be announced in a later stage. 

AMA shall nominate the suitable students to NYU's Department of Finance and Risk Engineering (FRE) for admission to the "Master of Science in Financial Engineering" programme for the second year of study.*

* Remark:

NYU FRE shall have sole authority to decide who is admitted to the NYU FRE program. Any admitted student who does not meet the GPA requirement upon completion of their first year at PolyU will have their offer of admission to NYU FRE rescinded and will not be allowed to enroll in the NYU FRE programme.
