Prize Presentation - Competition on Design your Ideal Laboratory (New EF402)

Date: March 2015   The Department launched the “Competition – Design your Ideal Laboratory (New EF402)” in March 2015.  We are pleased to obtain numerous inputs from participants design our new Electrical Engineering Laboratory to meet new needs.  Some of the ideas are amazing and inspiring.  Though we are unable to absorb all the inputs in the new design, it is good to learn from you the expectations. As a token of appreciation for those who actively participated in this competition, some prizes were presented to the following two groups of participants: - Chu Hing Leung, Ho Cheuk Fai & Wong Kai Yuen Thomas - Huang Yeqing, Lei Mengting & Luo Yifeng We anticipate for your continued support to the Department!

Happy Lunch Gathering with International, Exchange-in/out and non-local Students

In order to tighten the relationship between the students and the Department, we have organized the first gathering in a form of causal lunch with some of our invited students including international, non-local and exchange students.  We believe that the inputs from these students could inspire ways of improving our teaching and learning. This lunch gathering is the very first time organized by the Department and we are pleased to have over 26 of you to attend.  Professor HY Tam, our Department Head welcomed the students and appreciated for their participation.  Through this casual lunch gathering, both staff and students happily mingled and shared learning experiences and it is proven to be fruitful and enlightening.  The Department will continue to hold more gathering of this kind in the coming year and hope more students could  could participate and meet our academic and teaching staff in a friendly and casual way.

Technical visit to the Hong Kong International Airport

Date: 5th June 2015   A total of 29 students, research personnel and staff visited the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) on 5-June-2015. Engineers from the Hong Kong Airport Authority (HKAA) were serving as our tour guides and we are so happy to see one of our TSE graduates, Mr Frederick Ng, Graduate Engineer, was among the team.   A short presentation about the latest development of the HKIA was first given by Mr Joseph Lam, Manager, Special Systems Maintenance. Then we visited various facilities including: - Charging facilities for the electric vehicles; -  Depot and control centre of the Automated People Mover; and - The energy efficient lighting in the departure hall. The three-hour visit was both informative and fun. We would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to members of the HKAA for arranging this event.

2015 Graduation Tea Reception

Date: 29th May 2015 Time: 4:00 p.m. Venue: V1201 PolyU Campus   The 2015 Graduation Tea Reception was held on 29 May 2015 to celebrate the graduation of students after weeks of examination and share the joy and happiness with friends and teachers.  Dr W.C. Lo, Acting Head of the Department, kicked-off the event with a brief address.  He highlighted that the Department always treasures a close linkage with our alumni and is pleased to obtain updates from them regarding their job prospect and further personal advancement.  He took the opportunity to extend the warmest congratulations to our graduates and wish them every success in the future! During the tea reception, prizes and certificates were presented to graduates with outstanding academic performance and outstanding Final Year Projects to express our appreciation to their hard work.  Over 80 graduates and staff members participated  in the event and we all enjoyed this memorable afternoon. Once again, a heartfelt congratulation to our graduates and best wishes to them in fulfilling their aspirations!

PolyU Consultation Day for JUPAS Applicants 2015

Date: 16th May 2015   PolyU Consultation Day for JUPAS Applicants 2015 was successfully held on 16 May 2015 (Saturday) with more than 2,000 JUPUS Applicants visiting our campus. To impress and attract our JUPUS applicants, the Department has arranged a series of visit programmes including guided laboratories visits and info seminars.  The programmes offer practical and useful programmes information for our applicants.  A consultation session was offered in EF402 Electrical Engineering Lab and our senior and experienced academic staff and over 20 student ambassadors attended to answer participants’ queries and shared their learning experiences.  We have displayed various students’ final year projects in the venue and all these attract our visitors.  We hope we could offer a fruitful and meaningful experience to our potential students.

Staff retreat 2015

Date: 15th May 2015 Venue:  Hotel ICON   The Department has successfully held its annual Staff Retreat at Hotel ICON.  This one-day event was held on 15 May 2015, with the participation of all 24 Full-time and Visiting academic and teaching staff members.   This year, the retreat led staff members to go through topics like TSE development, HKIE accreditation, Teaching Assistant Scheme, Quality Assurance, Engineering Club, Mentorship Programme and updates of research activities.   Through this annual and informal gathering, it is hope that staff members could share and discuss freely.  More innovative and inspiring ideas could be shared.    

EE Graduation Tea Reception

Date: 29th May 2015 Time: 4:00 p.m. Venue: V1201 PolyU Campus   This year, we will have around 180 graduates and you will be one of them.  To share your joy and happiness, the Department is going to give you a memorable gathering which you can meet friends and teachers to celebrate your graduation. Please accept our warm invitation and come to join us in this friendly and relaxing gathering!

Happy BBQ Gathering

Date: 29th March 2015 Time: 12:00pm - 6:00pm Venue: Tuen Mun   On 29 March 2015, Electrical Engineering Students' Society (EESS) organized a BBQ in order to enhance communication and networking among students, alumni and teachers.  The Department is pleased to offer funding support to this event and everyone enjoyed the food and environment very much.  This gathering was held in a private BBQ venue located in Tuen Mun and we have received over 130 current students, alumni, teaching and administrative staff’s warm participation!   The activity proves to be a desirable platform for all of us to spend a wonderful and happy afternoon with lots of joys and surprises.  Thank you for making such a memorable event to both of us.  We look forward to having your continued support to the Department and EESS!

Thank-you Lunch for Student Volunteers

A lunch gathering was hosted by the Department on 25th February 2015 to show our heartfelt thank to our valued student volunteers who have contributed to various departmental activities in the past year.  The activities they have participated include PolyU InfoDay, MoU Signing Ceremony of the Mentorship Programme, secondary school visits and Departmental promotional video shooting etc.   On behalf of the Department, Professor H.Y. Tam expresses his appreciation for all the efforts the student volunteers paid and he looks forward to having their continued support to the Department in the coming years. More than 30 academic and teaching staff, students and administrative staff members joined the gathering to share the happiness.  As a token of appreciation, each student volunteer received a souvenir from the Department.
