Biography

Dr. K.H. Loo received the B.Eng. (Hons.) in electronic engineering and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Sheffield, U.K., in 1999 and 2002, respectively. From 2002 to 2004, he was the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Postdoctoral Fellow at the Ehime University, Japan, where he conducted researches on mercury-free fluorescent lamp diagnostics and modeling. Upon completion of his postdoctoral fellowship, he joined a local lighting company in Hong Kong as an electronic engineer and later as an engineering manager. In 2006, he joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and he is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering. His areas of research interest include power electronics and renewable energy systems. He is a co-author of two US patents and one China patent on LED driving technology. These works had won two Gold Medals in the International Exhibition of Inventions, Geneva, in 2009 and 2013. He serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion (since 2013) and IEEE Open Journal of Circuits and Systems (since 2019), and a reviewer for various international journals and conferences. He is currently the Chair of the Power Electronics and Control Sub-Committee of the IEEE Technical Committee on Transportation Electrification.
