20 Sep 2024

On 20 September 2024, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) held a donation ceremony for the Sinopec "Cleaner Energy Better Life" Outstanding Student Award Scheme. This marks another year of Sinopec’s continued support for the Scheme, underscoring the strengthened collaboration between the two parties in nurturing high-quality talent for society.

At the ceremony, Mr Jiang Zhenying, Deputy Chief Economist and Chief Representative of Sinopec’s Hong Kong Office, Dr Miranda Lo, PolyU Executive Vice President, and Mr Zeng Shendian, Vice President of the Chinese Enterprises Association delivered speeches. Representatives from the University Grants Committee, Legislative Council, Chinese Enterprises Association, PolyU management, Sinopec subsidiaries in Hong Kong, and Sinopec scholarships recipients attended the ceremony.

In his speech, Mr Jiang emphasised that the Scheme aims to help distinguished students realise their dreams, and equipping them with global perspectives and strong skills to become backbone of Hong Kong and the Nation.

Dr Miranda Lou expressed her heartfelt gratitude for Sinopec’s tremendous support for the University’s education. She looked forward to a new chapter of collaboration that will contribute to the nurturing of talents, technological innovation and national development.

Mr Zeng highlighted the potential impact of the partnership between PolyU and socially responsible enterprises like Sinopec, believing it will cultivate students who are patriotic, have global vision and a sense of socially responsible, and will make significant contribution to Hong Kong’s future.

Sinopec established the Sinopec "Cleaner Energy, Better Life" Outstanding Student Award Scheme at PolyU in 2022. The Scheme seeks to recognise and encourage undergraduates, master's, and doctoral students with exceptional academic and research achievements, fostering their all-round development, research capabilities and innovative spirit. Sinopec has donated a total of RMB 1.5 million to PolyU over the past two years. So far, 170 undergraduate and postgraduate students from five faculties have received awards from the Scheme. With Sinopec’s support for the third consecutive year, it is expected that the Scheme will benefit an addition of over 100 students.
