NetID Management Service

The PolyU NetID (Network Identity) is a key to University’s IT facilities and services. It is a unique personal identifier made up of a single username and password pair, named as NetID and NetPassword respectively. With the NetID, users can access the University’s online facilities including University Portal, eLearning Platform, Wi-Fi and other network facilities and services, etc. Please note that the privilege to use these IT facilities and services carries with certain responsibilities and obligations, which are set forth in the PolyU Acceptable Use Policy for University Information Technology Facilities and Services (AUP) and the Baseline Information Security Policy.   Updating Personal (External) Email Address In addition to PolyU Connect ("@connect.polyu.hk") or Staff ("@polyu.edu.hk") email address, a personal email address is used as an alternative means used by the University to communicate with user (e.g. when user reset NetPassword). Users are recommended to regularly review and update personal email address in NetID profile. Users are highly recommended to secure the external email account by regular change of password and consider the use of strong authentication in accessing the email account (as recommended by the service provider).

Network Access Services

Fixed network and Wi-Fi services are available in all the lecture theatres, general teaching rooms, the Library, sports centres, canteens and at convenient public areas around campus so that you can connect your mobile devices any time to access the central IT facilities and the Internet. Various virtual private network services are available for University staff and students to access the IT resources on the campus from remote locations. Network Infrastructure Support Service for Renovation Project

Departments may renovate their offices to meet new business requirements that align with the university strategies. We provide the following network infrastructure support: Consultancy support service for network infrastructure provision - how fixed network outlets or Wi-Fi access points should be installed in the renovation area to facilitate the operations Provision of fixed network outlets / Wi-Fi access points - procurement and implementation of the network equipment for provisioning fixed network outlets / Wi-Fi service in the renovation area Provision of IP telephony service - installation of IP telephony service at the renovation area

Network Shared Folder (NSF)

Network shared folder is a network-based file service to support file/folder sharing within departments with permission control. Departments may contact ITS for discussion and implementation of the departmental network shared folder. PolyU HKCC departments are also eligible for NSF service.

Online Learning Platforms

Online Learning Platforms

The University has adopted a Learning Management System (LMS) named Blackboard which internally known as LEARN@PolyU (理學網) as the common online leaning platform. LEARN@PolyU allows teaching staff and course administrators to create and manage interactive online learning content. A full range of IT supports on course content development and integration, server administration and account management are provided to teaching staff and course administrators for the operation of LEARN@PolyU.   Conduct Online Teaching with Blackboard Collaborate/ MS Teams To cope with the increasing demand in conducting online teaching sessions, teaching staff can leverage Blackboard Collaborate to conduct online lectures and interact with students using features such as video and/or audio chat, whiteboard, file and application sharing, breakout group, text chat, interactive polling, etc. Alternatively, Microsoft Teams, available in Office 365, can also be used by lecturers to conduct online teaching activities. MS Teams provides chat-based workspace for teachers and students to hold discussions, share documents and screens, etc. Zoom has been integrated and enabled for use in both Blackboard Collaborate and MS Teams to conduct synchronous online teaching delivery.   Using Video Content Management System for Online Teaching and Learning Staff and students can leverage Video Content Management System (also called VCMS/ uRewind/ Panopto) for online teaching and learning activities. VCMS enables lecture capture, video streaming, live broadcast and lab recording in support of flipped classroom, distance learning, virtual classroom, MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), etc. Teaching staff can capture their lectures for online review by students at any time using any device. Physical Access Control Infrastructure Service

This service provides a shared facilities access control platform i.e. Common Access Management System (CAMS) for departmental administrators to manage the physical access control of the facilities and office areas under their purview. With the facilities access control platform, departmental administrators can have flexible control over who and when is allowed to enter a location at a higher security level. This platform also allows the Facilities Management Office to oversee physical security of the campus areas.

PolyU Form Service PFS

PolyU Form Service (PFS)

PolyU Form Service provides an easy-to-use, full-featured web-based tool for registered form administrators of departments to create and manage e-forms for collecting essential information from targeted user group(s) in support of administration activities (e.g. online registration forms for workshops & seminars, and other types of events).

PolyU GenAI

The PolyU generative AI application is solely for PolyU staff and students to use for teaching and learning, research, and work-related activities only. Gen AI tools cover ChatGPT models including image-to-text service and Stable Diffusion text-to-image service running on public Cloud. Alibaba Tongyi Qianwen, Mistral AI Mixtral and Meta Llama open-source model hosted on campus are also available. Access requires successful authentication using your staff or student NetID.

PolyU Home Drive

PolyU Home Drive (PHD)

Staff and students can store and access their working files on the on-premises network storage, PolyU Home Drive (PHD). The storage is up to 100GB for student and 200GB for staff. Files on the PHD are protected by a 7-day data retention policy. In case the files are corrupted or have been accidentally deleted, they can be conveniently restored. The PolyU Home Drive on campus can be accessed from any workspace equipment with NetID and NetPassword. Users may also access through the Virtual Student Computer Centre (vSCC) service on and off campus.
