The new VPN service ‘Cloud Express’ will be available to all Mainland-based students starting form 4 January 2021. ‘Cloud Express’ service provider will have two Data Centres (located at Beijing and Shenzhen) allowing PolyU students based in Mainland to establish direct VPN connection. Both Data Centres have data circuits from three telecom carriers in Mainland (China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom). ‘Cloud Express’ provides a higher-resilience multiple-entry secure VPN service for students in Mainland cities irrespective of local Internet service providers subscribed by students.
To facilitate the transit to the new VPN service at ease, both ‘Cloud Express’ and the existing secure VPN service will be running in parallel in January 2021. However, students are recommended to switch to the new ‘Cloud Express’ VPN service earlier to get familiar with the use procedures before Semester 2 commences.
Students need to download a new VPN client software and complete the first time use setup. Procedures to download and install the client software will be notified via email to all students in early January 2021. Please stay tuned.
Effective from 4 January 2021, a new VPN service ‘Cloud Express’ will replace the existing carrier-based secure VPN service for all Mainland-based students. The current carrier-based secure VPN service will be retired on 31 January 2021.
