MySQL is the world’s most popular open source database. As a key component of the open source software bundle LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and Perl/PHP/Python), MySQL is widely applied in teaching, learning and research.
Starting from January 2020, ITS DBaaS (Database as a Service) also supports MySQL in addition to SQL Server. MySQL is one of the database software as recommended in the Web Application Development Guidelines of the University.
About the New MySQL DBaaS
ITS MySQL DBaaS is a relational database service based on MySQL Enterprise Edition database engine version 8.0, with significant enhancements on performance, security and developer productivity. By leveraging MySQL Enterprise Authentication, MySQL Enterprise Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) and MySQL Enterprise Audit for security implementation, the MySQL DBaaS complies with PolyU’s Data Governance Framework.
By subscribing the ITS DBaaS solution, users can focus on application development without having to set up the physical hardware and manage the time-consuming database administration tasks including resilience, backup, software patching and monitoring. You will also benefit from all the built-in IT security features of this platform at no extra cost.
Departments interested in the DBaaS solution are welcome to contact ITS (dbaas.support@polyu.edu.hk) for discussing your database requirements and to learn about the different rental packages available.
