Over 30 students participated in the AWS DeepRacer Day to learn Machine Learning and applied such to DeepRacer model car competition on 28 August 2023.
Through this one-day workshop, students learned, practiced, and competed in an autonomous racing league. Students completed online tutorial and tried out its model on 3D software simulator before applied to physical model racing car to compete on racing track. Students with no prior ML experience and training could master the concept and application of reinforcement learning after completion of the workshop.
Students collaborated with team members from different program disciplines and worked out strategies to optimize their models to allow their model cars to speed through the track in shortest possible time.
Participating students enjoyed the experience. The workshop aimed to foster more students with interests in applying reinforcement learning and paving their way for further exploration in using Machine Learning.
