Summary

This talk will discuss groundwater quality modeling and contamination risk assessment from the perspectives of site scale, watershed scale, and regional scale. At the site scale, pollution migration and remediation processes are simulated by finely depicting the aquifer structure combined with high-resolution numerical models. At the watershed scale, different methods are discussed, including upscaling methods, mixed-cell models, and numerical models in describing the water quality evolution process in complex non-steady flow fields. Furthermore, combining machine learning and physical processes, the evolution of groundwater quality and pollution risk assessment at the regional scale are explored, achieving accurate simulation and prediction of the dynamic changes in contamination risk in watersheds caused by human activities and climate change.

Dr Zhilin GUO

Assistant professor

Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen

As an assistant professor at Southern University of Science and Technology, Dr. GOU’s main research interests include numerical modeling of groundwater flow and contaminant transport, upscaling methods of groundwater contaminant transport, and the evaluation of sustainability of groundwater resources under global change. She has led multiple national, provincial, and municipal projects and published over 40 articles in top journals of water resources field. Currently, she serves as the Vice-Chair of the UNESCO Groundwater Young Researchers Network (UNESCO GWYN), a member of the Hydrogeology Committee of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), and a member of the Groundwater Committee of the American Geophysical Union (AGU). She is also the Deputy Director of the State Environmental Protection Key Laboratory of Integrated Surface Water-Groundwater Contamination Control. Additionally, she serves as an Associate Editor for "Water Resources Research" and "Journal of Hydrology" , and as a reviewer for multiple international journals in hydrology and water resources.
