In an interview by TVB News for Liu Wai-chung, Morgan, a LSGI postdoctoral fellow, revealed how he almost gave up his dream of scientific research after graduation.
Morgan is the only local scholar in LSGI who participated in the research of identifying suitable landing sites for China’s Mars exploration mission Tianwen-1. He recalled that he didn't perform well in A-Level exam and took his Higher Diploma programme at LSGI in 2009.
Two years later, Liu topped up to the degree programme in Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics, and determined to be engaged in scientific research after graduation. Nonetheless, he once thought of quitting after visiting scholars from door to door for postgraduate study. “It seems that a lot of people are doing better than me. I still have a lot more to prepare for entering this gate.” No pain no gain, eventually, he completed his PhD degree under supervision of Prof. WU Bo, Associate Head of LSGI in 2020.
Prof. Wu shared that many professors also value candidate's interests, passion and curiosity more than his/her possession of knowledge. Morgan suggested students who are interested in scientific research shall approach experts actively to strive for the opportunity.
