Dr Tony Chen observed kinematic changes in marathon runners

The inaugural Bank of China (Hong Kong) Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HK Section) Half Marathon was held last Sunday. Dr Tony Chen, member of RISports and Research Assistant Professor of Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), led a research team to conduct on-track experiment. By applying advanced wearable motion tracking sensors, the kinematic changes in runners of different competitive levels as they engaged in prolonged running were observed.

Dr Tsuyoshi Nishiwaki of Asics investigated PolyU's latest sports research development

Followed by the seminar delivered by Dr Tsuyoshi Nishiwaki, Chairman of Asics China Trading and Senior Managing Director of Asics Greater China, last Friday, he visited the wind tunnel laboratory and interactive design studio of PolyU to know more about our latest sports research development and provided some constructive comments.

Dr Tsuyoshi Nishiwaki of Asics shared about sports footwear science

The "Distinguished Sports Research Seminar Series - Sports Footwear Science" delivered by Dr Tsuyoshi Nishiwaki, Chairman of Asics China Trading and Senior Managing Director of Asics Greater China, organized by the Research Institute for Sports Science and Technology (RISports), and co-organized by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University - Samaranch Sports Development Centre, and Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) was successfully held today. This seminar attracted over 150 PolyU staff and students, professionals and friends from the sports industry. Thanks for all the support and look forward to seeing you in our coming seminars!

RISports featured on the cover story of Mainland - HK Academic Exchange

Prof. Ming Zhang and Dr Jason Cheung, Director and Senior Research Fellow of RISports, were featured in the cover story of Mainland - Hong Kong Academic Exchange Newsletter Vol. 138 (Oct 2023) introducing RISports and revealed the current research projects. Prof. Zhang looked forward to establishing a sports and health database that could support up to 100,000 Hong Kong citizens in the future. And after numerous clinical trials, the institute has launched the "Tai Chi Running" research scheme, which would be further promoted later. In addition to promoting the implementation of scientific research, RISports was also actively developing in all aspects, including dedicating itself to competition training. Next year, it also planned to offer a Master's degree programme in sports technology to attract graduates from mainland sports universities to come to Hong Kong for further education.   More details (Chinese only): https://www.bhkaec.org.hk/a/134433-cht

Our Sports Advisor and former Olympic diving gold medalist, Ms Wang Xin, delivered a speech for the Inspirational Talk Series by STARS Residential College last week. She shared about the spirit of life with over 200 PolyU students and staff. RISports Director, Prof. Zhang Ming, has also supported the talk and communicated with her.

They included Ms Zhang Ping, former Olympic volleyball gold medalist, Ms Wang Xin, former Olympic diving gold medalist, and Ms Guo Yina, former World Wushu Tai Chi Chuan Champion.
