Biography

Ms Nerita Chan graduated with a Professional Diploma in Physiotherapy and obtained her Master’s degree in Health Care (Physiotherapy) from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Ms Nerita Chan has been working in the field of paediatric physiotherapy for more than 30 years. She has held positions as the Senior Physiotherapist and Department Manager at Tuen Mun Hospital.  Prior to joining The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, she served as the Manager of Allied Health and was in charge of seven allied health professions at the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital.

Ms Chan specialised in paediatric physiotherapy, particularly in the area of neuro-rehabilitation.  She was keen in movement and gait analysis for children with neurological problems.  Over the past 25 years, Ms Chan collaborated closely with the Paediatric Neurology team and Neurosurgical team and developed the comprehensive Spasticity Management Program for children with Cerebral Palsy.  The Program has then been extended to adult patients with neurological problem.  The success of Ms Chan’s work has led to two Outstanding Team awards granted by the Hospital Authority in 2013 and 2014.  Ms Chan has also conducted various research studies related to paediatric rehabilitation and movement analysis, presenting the results at local and oversea conferences.  Ms Chan has been involved in teaching for over 20 years, serving as a part-time senior lecturer in various universities in Hong Kong and Mainland China, specialising in paediatric specialty.

Currently, Ms Chan serves as the Chairlady of the Paediatric Specialty Group of the Hong Kong Physiotherapists’ Association.  She represents Hong Kong as the delegate of the International Organisation of Physical Therapists in Paediatrics (IOPTP), World Physiotherapy.  From 2015 to 2022, she was invited to serve as an abstract reviewer for the World Physiotherapy Congress.  Ms Chan has also been invited to be a Peer Reviewer for the Journal of Musculoskeletal Science and Practice and Hong Kong Physiotherapy Journal.  She holds council member positions in The Hong Kong Spasticity Management Society and The Hong Kong Society of Neuromuscular Diseases.
