Kuk Po Hakka Unicorn Team training

The Hakka Unicorn is the auspicious beast of the Hakka people, symbolising good fortune and community cohesion. According to the Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventory, there are two heritage items related to "Hakka Unicorn": "bamboo craft skills" and "Hakka Unicorn dance". Local traditions greatly depend on the younger generation for continuity. After learning traditional bamboo crafting, we will organise a unicorn team for Kuk Po Village!

Master Wan Kin On will coach the unicorn dance. Participants will learn the etiquette, instruments, skills, and procedures of the unicorn dance through 10-session training.

The unicorn team will participate in the Kuk Po Festival in January, performing for villagers and the public. Participating students will receive a certificate of participation from the School of Design at PolyU to acknowledge their efforts as apprentices. We also welcome apprentices to come in person on the event day to enjoy the unicorn team's performance.

「百姓愁，麒麟走；天下和，麒麟舞。」

麒麟是客家的瑞獸，有吉祥和凝聚村落之意。根據香港非物質文化遺產名錄，有關「麒麟」的非遺項目有兩項，一是「紮作技藝」，另一是「舞麒麟」。本地的傳統風俗極需要後一輩承傳，繼學習傳統紮作後，我們將為谷埔村組織麒麟隊！

舞麒麟將由龍獅麒麟貔貅教練兼藝術家温健安師傅教授，為參與者進行為期10堂的麒麟隊訓練，學習舞麒麟的禮儀、樂器、技巧和程序。

麒麟隊將參與於一月舉行的谷埔慶典，為村民及公眾進行畢業演出；參與的學生將獲得由理工大學設計學院頒發參與嘉許證書一張，以答謝學徒的努力。同時我們亦歡迎學徒們在活動當天，親自到現場欣賞麒麟隊的表演。
