Project Title

The Effects of Flavonoids on Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder

Synopsis

Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is an idiopathic inflammatory demyelinating disease affecting the optic nerve, particularly prevalent in the Asian population. Oxidative stress plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of NMOSD by triggering an immune-mediated inflammatory response. Flavonoids, such as baicalein, have been recognized for their antioxidant and neuroprotective properties in various ocular diseases. However, research on the use of flavonoids for treating NMOSD is limited. This project aims to enhance our understanding of the effects of flavonoids on neurons and to explore potential therapeutic developments for NMOSD.
