Developmental Language Disorder in Chinese Children: An Introduction to Research and Practice. 2nd Symposium on Theory and Practice of Bilingualism. Department of Chinese, Sun Yat-Sen University, Zhuhai, China, 18-20 May 2024.

Abstract
Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is a high prevalence but hidden impairment that affects the understanding, processing, and learning of spoken language. In comparison to autism spectrum disorder, hearing impairment, and developmental dyslexia, the scientific study of DLD is relatively behind in the Chinese population. There is insufficient scientific knowledge about the manifestations and identification of DLD in Chinese, and a lack of awareness of this disorder in the general public as well as in health policy makers. This talk will provide a systematic review of the extant literature on Chinese DLD, summarize existing assessment criteria and assessment tools, and offer several cases for hands-on practice.
