Hello! My name is Khurram Jahangir, and I hail from Pakistan. I'm currently embarking on my PhD journey within the prestigious Department of Food Science and Nutrition (FSN) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU).
PolyU caught my attention due to its exceptional blend of industry-oriented research and a rich academic environment, coupled with the vibrant multiculturalism in Hong Kong. I'm truly grateful for the generous support provided by the PolyU Research Postgraduate Scholarship (PRPgS), which has played a pivotal role in facilitating my academic journey. This scholarship has opened doors for me to fully immerse myself in my research, contributing to its advancement. My research revolves around constructing a gene regulatory network of laccases in Coprinopsis cinerea using the revolutionary CRISPR-Cas9 RNP technique. This project holds significant promise for various industrial applications, particularly in the food industry. The state-of-the-art research facilities at PolyU have been instrumental in facilitating my research endeavours. Furthermore, I've had the privilege of receiving inspiring guidance from Dr Chang Jinhui Gail, my dedicated supervisor. Her expertise and mentorship have been invaluable, playing a pivotal role in shaping me into a more capable and knowledgeable researcher.
PolyU has also provided me with opportunities to broaden my horizons through various seminars and academic events. These experiences have allowed me to interact with experts from diverse fields, expanding my knowledge base and providing inspiration for future directions in my research.
In addition, living in the student hall at PolyU has been an incredibly enriching experience. It has enabled me to immerse myself in a cultural melting pot, forge lifelong friendships, and engage in a diverse array of activities. Hello there! I'm Tania, and I come all the way from Indonesia. Currently, I'm in the initial stages of my PhD journey as a first-year student in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition (FSN) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU).
I've had the privilege of studying in Hong Kong during my undergraduate years, which provided me with a unique advantage. The prevalent use of English in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes significantly reduce language barriers, making it much easier for international students like me to adapt and excel in their studies. When considering where to pursue my postgraduate studies, the good reputation and consistent top-ranking of PolyU on the global stage, along with its excellent academic staff, were major factors that drew me in. The richly international environment further solidified my decision, as I believed it would be the ideal place to embark on my academic journey.

My current research project revolves around the synthesis of gold(III) complexes with applications in both catalysis and bioconjugation. Our research group aspires to enhance efficiency and explore various alternatives for peptide and protein modifications, aiming to make valuable contributions to the field of Chemical Biology.
Beyond the academic aspects, I must emphasize the incredible support system that PolyU provides to all its students. I am truly thankful to have encountered such warm and supportive individuals, including my supervisor and senior lab-mates.
