Offshore Service-Learning projects
PolyU is dedicated to providing students with overseas Service-Learning opportunities. Service-Learning projects have been conducted in countries such as Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Rwanda, and Vietnam.
In 2021/22, nearly 260 students took part in overseas projects. Some services were delivered online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the resumption of international travel, PolyU restarted the international Service-Learning programme later that year, sending students to Rwanda and Vietnam to provide their services. Additionally, more than 530 students travelled to the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
Their projects spanned six main categories: technology education and development, sustainable community development, hospitality management, child and adolescent development, cultural heritage preservation and community health care services. The outcomes and students’ experiences demonstrate the effective and rich teaching methods of international Service-Learning.
