PolyU’s pioneering Service-Learning programme integrates meaningful community service with academic study and reflections to inspire students to apply their professional knowledge and skills in serving the underprivileged and giving back to society.
Thousands of students from different disciplines participate in Service-Learning projects in Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and elsewhere, including STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education and health care, technology education and development, sustainable community projects, and child and adolescent development.
In just a few years, the Service-Learning subjects offered have increased by more than ten times, with over 4,400 students enrolled in 2021/22. Through the joint efforts of academic departments and community partners and with generous donations from various sectors, our offshore service projects have expanded into more developing countries. The Service-Learning Student Network has also been launched and a platform for international exchange has been developed.
