PolyU hosted the “Tin Ka Ping Foundation Donation Ceremony” on 26 August 2024, to express sincere gratitude for the long-standing support of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation (Foundation). The ceremony was officiated by Mr Tin Hing-sin, Chairman of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, Mr Tai Hay-lap, Vice Chairman, Mr Tin Wing-sin, Director, Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President of PolyU, and Dr Roy Chung, Treasurer of the PolyU Foundation and Honorary Chairman of the University Court. Other distinguished guests in attendance included Mr Bryan Tin, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, The Hon. Perry Yiu, Member of the University Council, Ms Katherine Hung, Honorary Member of the University Court and Member of the PolyU Foundation Governing Committee and Sr Kenneth Pang, Member of the University Court, Dr Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President and Professor Ben Young, Vice President (Student and Global Affairs).
The Foundation has been a vital supporter of PolyU since 2003 and it has been backing the Department of Applied Social Sciences' P.A.T.H.S. project since 2011. This initiative aims to improve the mental health of young people in Hong Kong and the Mainland and promote holistic development. Thanks to the generous support of the Foundation, the P.A.T.H.S. project will extend its reach from secondary schools to primary schools. The donation will also support the “Service Leadership” programme for PolyU students and Mainland Chinese university students, nurturing them to become service leaders with professional competence, good character, and a caring disposition.
In his speech, Mr Tin Wing-sin said that PolyU and the Foundation shared a strong bond and like-minded vision. He highlighted that this year marks the 105th anniversary of Dr Tien's birth, adding significance to the donation and its impact on student development.
Professor Jin-Guang Teng expressed his sincere gratitude to the Foundation, ‘Dr Tin began his donations to support PolyU education and research in 2003, and has entrusted us with his support for more than 20 years. Through years of collaboration and exchange, we have witnessed the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to promoting youth education and university development, working closely with PolyU.’
In recognition of the late Dr Tin and the Foundation's significant contributions to education, PolyU has named classroom GH405 as the "Tin Ka Ping Children and Youth Development Classroom".
