Creative veggie workshops

16 Dec 2021

To highlight to the campus community the benefits and pleasures of a meat-free diet, PolyU has been running the VeggieLicious event annually since 2015. It ran between 25 to 29 October this year, with different activities to show that vegetarian food can be exciting to eat, delicious and enjoyable for everyone.

VeggieLicious was an excellent occasion for the University community and supporters of a vegetarian lifestyle to share and exchange their green eating experiences and ideas. This year, a few interesting workshops were held to inspire the participants and to green the entire campus.

Herbs and spices are a tasty and healthy addition to any veggie diet. In addition to providing incredible flavour combinations, there are several health benefits of consuming herbs and spices. Hands-on workshops to explore organic herbs were arranged, aiming to introduce different types of herbs to campus participants and explain the process of turning organic herbs into dried herb products. Participants at the spot learnt a lot about herb salt with Southeast Asian flavours, like lemongrass, curry leaves, pandan leaves, etc. They were also able to mix and bring home their own bottles of herb salt!

Turmeric has a warm, bitter taste and is frequently used to flavour or colour curry powders and mustards. It may not appear very popular among us, but it has many proven health benefits as it can lessen inflammation and fight free radicals. Being part of the VeggieLicious 2021, workshops on DIY turmeric face mask were staged on campus and attracted many staff and students. They were briefed about the natural benefits of turmeric as well as its best growing season in Hong Kong.

These workshops were engaging, informative and fun-filled. They encouraged all participating students and staff members to experience unbounded creativity and learning of green dining concepts outside classrooms and offices. There are loads of benefits to starting a veggie diet, why hesitate?
