57 students from PolyU, Peking University, Kyoto University and Ewha Womans University participated in the China-Japan-Korea SERVE Initiative in the summer of 2017. The students visited Kobe and Kyoto to learn about the active ageing situation in both cities and rural areas in Japan. They collaborated with the local elderly in organizing an innovative STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programme for local children. The students also learned about the Japanese’s persistence and modesty in living with the nature.
The Initiative is co-organized by PolyU’s Global Youth Leadership Institute and the University Social Responsibility Network. It aims to help the participants to understand and compare the different perspectives and issues of aging among Japan, Korea, the Mainland, and Hong Kong, and ignites students with passion to get along with and serve elderly.
