Poster - The Precious Starry Sky: Viewing and Photographing Tips for Meteor Showers

Summary

Hong Kong, being one of the most densely populated places globally, countless skyscrapers and excessive artificial lighting make it hard for us to catch a glimpse of a starry sky from the notorious light pollution. During this sharing session, the speaker will share some of his impressive shots of Hong Kong’s amazing starry nights, reminding the audience of the need to protect the rarity of such precious and natural starscapes. He will also introduce the basics of stargazing the Perseid Meteor Shower on 13 Aug and share tips on astronomical photography.

香港作為全球人口密度最高地區之一，城市發展充滿了「燈火」，而我們卻一步步忘記了「星顆」。在光污染下生活的我們，看星是多麼陌生的一件事情。是次網上分享會講者會分享香港的星空照片，藉此喚醒大家一起保育這奢侈的星空給下一代。講者亦會分享8月13日英仙座流星雨觀測及拍攝心得。

Keynote Speaker

Mew Chu 朱子亮

Mew Chu dedicates himself to astrophotography and stargazing. He offers photography talks to astronomy organisations, Hong Kong Space Museum, photographic societies and schools. Aiming at raising public awareness about ecological issues with images, he joined the light pollution research and education work at the University of Hong Kong, working to inspire the public about appreciating the beauty of the starry sky. Also, he often meets the press and attended local media interviews, including South China Morning Post, Apple Daily, Oriental Daily, and others. RTHK had an exclusive interview with him in its podcast programme and showed his night sky time-lapse video in the Science ETV. Mew Chu 致力推廣星野攝影及天文觀測，曾為各大天文團體、太空館、攝影學會、學校舉辦各種天文攝影講座。他亦以影像推動環境教育，曾參與香港大學光污染數據調查及教育工作，讓大眾認識星空之可貴。Mew Chu 曾接受多間傳媒採訪，包括：南華早報、蘋果日報、東方日報、香港電台、南方都市日報及太陽報等。他亦是香港電台「尋找香港」節目專訪對象之一。Mew Chu 的星空隔時片段亦被香港電台教育電視採用，作科學科教育電視用途。
