Eating more plant-based food is definitely a delicious way to do your bit for the environment. To highlight to the campus community the benefits and pleasures of a meat-free diet, PolyU has been running the VeggieLicious event annually since 2015. It ran between 16 – 20 September this year, with different activities to show that vegetarian food can be exciting to eat.
Following on from the success of previous years, this year’s VeggieLicious presented great opportunities to reach out to students and staff and showed them how easy to make and how vibrant veggie food can be. It brought about a collection of events. A fascinating lunch carnival was staged to kick-off the week to showcase an amazing world of vegetarian food. Tasting corners for vegan pizza, nut milk tea, and fruity smoothie were set up and impressed the campus community on how creative and tasty vegetarian food was. An urban gardening game booth and workshops on homemade incense with upcycled peels were present to tell everyone about the benefits of adopting mindful and green habits. This was supported by various catering outlets on campus as well, with special green menus and discounts being offered to diners in the same period.
Whether for health benefits, cost, or animal welfare concerns, people opt for vegetarian food for personal reasons. VeggieLicious was an excellent occasion for students, staff, and supporters of a vegetarian lifestyle to share and exchange their green eating experiences and ideas. Experts and health professionals joined in various sharing sessions, which helped deepen participants’ understanding of a veggie diet.
VeggieLicious energises the campus and encourages everyone to make healthier food choices and greener personal habits. It’s about celebrating a compassionate decision to show our love and care for the environment. There are 52 weeks in a year. Why not make one or some of them meat-free?
