Trees are a very important part of our environment. They are one of the most valuable gifts of nature. Why do trees matter? Have you ever ‘listened’ to them and thought about our connections with them?
Trees help create the air we breathe. They provide habitat to the majority of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. They are our reliable partners to make Earth a safe place to live, and they help mitigate human impact on climate change. We need trees in our city amid the urban environments as they help reduce temperatures and offer comfortable shades.
To examine the significance of trees and how they affect our quality of life, PolyU staged several seminars and sharing sessions in the past for our staff and students. Forestry professionals came to explore the latest knowledge on the role of trees and educate the University community on importance of tree planting and environmental conservation. These activities opened the door to precious lessons on the immense value and benefits that trees offer us. They are part of the University’s sustainability education and prove to be a resounding success.
The University campus is also home to many different tree species. These trees on campus, like others we find across the city, provide huge visual appeal, and can significantly enhance the design of the landscape. Trees also play a major role in providing a natural boost to our psychological health. They help reduce stress, anxiety, and allow us to connect with nature. Spending some time on a walk under the canopy of trees and getting surrounded by the rustle of leaves can trigger positive emotional experiences and benefit our health and well-being.
Some people take trees for granted. But can you imagine what the world would look like without them? Let’s learn more about them and show our care. Think of what we can do for trees and how we can contribute to protect and conserve them.
