Overview of Research Projects
Home to world-class researchers and facilities, PolyU strives to find revolutionary solutions that address environmental and societal challenges. With funding support from the University, research grants and external sources, faculties, schools, and research teams carry forward our success in many research areas and enjoy a world-leading reputation in many disciplines. During the reporting year, PolyU continued to expand research on enhancing environmental technologies, developing healthcare solutions, and exploring the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) enablers, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.
In 2018/19, generous funding support for research projects were received, with a total value of HK$2,941 million undertaken by 3,035 projects. As at the end of the reporting period, PolyU was granted with 910 patents cumulatively, 58 of which were granted in 2018/19 alone. Recognizing the importance of sharing the wide range of proprietary knowledge and technologies with different sectors, more than 30 patented-technologies were licensed during the reporting year to the industry and start-ups as well as for educational purposes.
