Kick-starting the forth cohort of RISE Youth Leadership Programme
The forth cohort of RISE Youth Leadership Programme kick-started this January with an orientation and a two-day camp.
Signifying “Responsibility, Impact, Serve, Empower”, RISE is a one-semester three-credit leadership training offered to UGC-funded undergraduate local students in PolyU.
This year, RISE is embedded with a 3-credit Service-Learning subject - APSS2S09 ‘Service Leadership through Serving Children and Families with Special Needs in Vietnam’. 42 PolyU students of ten different nations and regions join together to serve the families and children in An Giang, Vietnam, a province southwest to Ho Chi Minh City.
To better prepare for the trip from late May to early June, students attended a programme orientation and a two-day team building and leadership adventure camp on 26-27 January, so to build team coherence and to enhance intra- and interpersonal understanding. They experienced and demonstrated collaborations in the tasks and identified unique talents among teammates. In the latter stage, these students would attend Service Leadership lectures, workshops on cultural competence, service project planning, and finally to serve in Vietnam.
