Dr Thomas Bauer was invited by Miramar Express to conduct a seminar on Antarctic Tourism at The Mira Hong Kong on 15 May 2010.

Dr Thomas Bauer attended the 5th Silk Road Mayors Forum on 19-21 May 2010 hosted by the Municipality of Shiraz and the Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization in Shiraz, Iran. He gave a plenary presentation on "Cooperation and Collaboration for a Sustainable Future of Traditions and Knowledge along the Silk Road".

Professor Haiyan Song spoke on "A Web-based Hong Kong Tourism Demand Forecasting System" at the 9th Wuhan International Conference on e-Business held in Wuhan, China, on 29-30 May 2010.

 

Professor Bob McKercher presented a paper entitled "A Framework for Comparative Research in World Heritage and Tourism" and led a two-hour workshop to identify emerging research issues at World Heritage and Tourism: Managing for the Global and the Local held in Quebec City, Canada, on 1-4 June 2010.

 

Dr Henry Tsai presented his paper entitled "A Revenue Management Model for Casino Table Games" at the Harrah Hospitality Research Summit 2010 held in Las Vegas, USA, on 9-11 June 2010.

 

Dr Qu Xiao attended the International Hotel Investment Forum 2010 held in Macau on 14-16 June 2010.

 

Professor Cathy Hsu and Dr Kam Hung attended the 2010 Travel and Tourism Research Association Annual Conference held in Texas, USA, on 20-22 June 2010. Professor Hsu also attended the Association's board meeting. Dr Hung presented a paper entitled "Developing a Measurement Scale for Cruising Motivations".

 

Professor Haiyan Song, in his capacity as Board Director, attended the 30th International Symposium on Forecasting held in San Diego, USA, on 20-23 June 2010. He also presented a paper entitled "Tourism Forecasting: The Accuracy of Alternative Econometric Models Revisited".

 

Professor Kaye Chon spoke on trends in the hospitality and tourism industry in relation to design in his welcome remarks and joined the panel discussion at the 2010 Reinventing with Design (ReD) Conference: Hospitality and Service Design held at The Mira Hong Kong on 23 June.

Dr Thomas Bauer presented a paper entitled "From the Ice to the Rainforest and from Words to Action" at the International Rainforest Tourism Symposium, hosted by James Cook University held in Cairns, Australia, on 22-24 June 2010.

 

Dr Barry Mak attended the 38th Hong Kong Association of Travel Agents Annual Overseas Convention held in Singapore on 25-27 June 2010. He was one of the panel members and discussed the findings he has collated in a travel agencies draft manuscript.

Professor Cathy Hsu presented her paper entitled "Formation of Tourist Behavioural Intention and Actual Behaviour" at the 7th International Conference on Service System and Service Management held in Tokyo, Japan, on 28-30 June 2010.

Dr Alan Wong presented a paper entitled "Ecotour Guide Training in Hong Kong : A Comparison of Training Programmes" at the 2nd World Ecotourism Conference held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 8-11 July 2010.

Dr Wilco Chan, Dr Simon Wong, Ms Loretta Pang and Mr Joey Wu attended the 9th Asia Pacific Forum for Graduate Students' Research in Tourism, hosted by the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Beppu, Japan, on 9-11 July 2010. Dr Wong presented a paper entitled "The Relationship between Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) and Intention to Stay among Club's Employees: A Multiple Regression Approach". Mr Wu presented a paper entitled "Assessing the Impacts of New Product Design and Promotion on Guest Motivations to a Special Event".

Dr Honggen Xiao presented a paper entitled "Diffusion Patterns and Knowledge Networks: Some Observations of Multidisciplinary Tourism Research" at the XVII International Sociological Association (ISA) World Congress of Sociology held in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 11-17 July 2010.

Professor Haiyan Song presented a paper entitled "Tourism Demand Modelling and Forecasting: How Should Demand Be Measured?" at the 21st CEA (UK) and 2nd CEA (Europe) Annual Conference hosted by University of Oxford in Oxford, UK, on 12-13 July 2010.

 

Professor Rob Law and Mr Guenther Karch attended the 16th Asia Pacific Tourism Association (APTA) Annual Conference held in Macau on 13-16 July 2010. Professor Law presented a paper entitled "An Analysis of Tourism Journals' Citation Quality". Mr Karch presented his paper on "The Role and Relevance of Uniforms in the Hospitality Industry's Service Encounter Triangle".

Ms Alice To attended the Global Events Congress IV: Events and Festival Research: State of the Art held in Leeds, UK, on 14-16 July 2010.

 

Professor Haiyan Song and Dr Karin Weber attended the 2010 International CHRIE Annual Summer Conference and Marketplace held in Puerto Rico on 28-31 July 2010. Professor Song received the John Wiley & Sons Lifetime Research Achievement Award recognising his invaluable contributions to outstanding scholarship and research in hospitality and tourism. Dr Weber presented two papers entitled "Consumer Responses to Service Recovery Strategies in a Strategic Alliance Setting" and "Career Anchors of Convention and Exhibition Industry Professionals in Asia".
