Using Microsoft Stream on SharePoint

MS Stream (on Classic) platform will be end of service in August 2023. The replacement product, MS Stream (on SharePoint) is available for use. To ease user switching to the use of new platform, below are some examples of use cases.

1. Sharing of videos via MS Teams folders
What to do:
Create folder in Microsoft Teams or SharePoint site and upload the videos to respective folder. Share the link of the folder with people who need to access relevant videos saved in the folder.

 

2. Sharing of class recording and other teaching content video
What to do:

  • Create a new document library in your SharePoint site and then create different folders in the library for classifying videos.
  • Customize metadata columns in the SharePoint document library to organize videos, instead of using folders.
  • Set viewing video files as gallery view and save the setting as default so that people will see the video thumbnails when browsing the videos.
  • Grab a link of the new video library and set permission for people who are interested to watch the videos, you can send them a link to visit the new library.

 

3. Collaboration within MS Team site

What to do:
Upload the videos to private MS Teams group to allow MS Teams members’ viewing only.

 

4. Department top-down sharing of videos
What to do:
Option A: Roll up department-wide video through a SharePoint site for specific topics or content
Option B: Single destination for uploaded videos through a public SharePoint site that is open to all department staff to upload
