New features unlocked in Zoom

Recently, Zoom has released two important updates that are especially critical for teaching and learning purposes.

 

  1. Classroom PCs Transition to Zoom client software 5.17.7

To further enhance the instructor’s class delivery experience and bolster privacy and security measures, the Zoom software on all classroom PCs has been updated to version 5.17.7 on 25 Apr 2024. This updated version of Zoom is also readily accessible through the Software Center for a seamless transition.

Please be aware that with this update, you will notice a slight modification to the interface when utilizing the screen share function.

  1. New Zoom “All screens mode” in class VC session

The new 'All Screens' mode enables instructors to view all students' shared videos and screens via a scrollable, side-by-side toolbar. When activating this mode, instructors can also choose to allow students to see the shared content from their peers.

This feature is designed to offer a streamlined and straightforward experience, with a focus on simultaneously displaying student videos and their desktops:

  • For Student Presentations and Peer Review:
    The 'All Screen' mode enables instructors and classmates to view all screens with their presentations side by side, facilitating class discussions and peer reviews.

 

  • For Proctoring:
    The 'All Screen' mode allows instructors to monitor all student videos and desktops simultaneously during exams for proctoring purposes.
