ITS is enhancing AV IT facilities in selected classrooms at the PolyU campus to support active learning. These improvements aim to facilitate student presentations and discussions during class.
Students can use their own devices (notebook, MacBook, iPad/Android tablet, or personal smartphone) to share their device screens (visual and audio) with the classroom visual display (projector or LCD display). Additional wireless microphones allow students to participate in discussions in class.
For GT rooms with wireless presentation devices, students can refer to this quick setup procedure to project content from their own devices.
Instructors who facilitate class discussions can use the integrated AV IT control and select the visual source “wireless projection” to allow students to share their screens to the classroom projector or LCD display screen (step 1). Students need to connect their personal devices to PolyU Wi-Fi (POLYUWAN) first and follow steps 2 to 4 to share their screens as shown below:
We are provisioning the enhancement by phase. By the beginning of semester 2, 37 classrooms will be ready for use.
For classrooms with Smart Panels, students can refer to the following quick setup steps to install the IdeaShare mobile app on their personal devices for sharing to the Smart Panel in the classroom. In addition to the device types mentioned above, the IdeaShare mobile app also supports devices running Harmony OS.
You can find an updated list of the classrooms with the above enhancements by visiting Learning Space and clicking the menu ‘please select classroom type,’ then selecting from the three types of GT rooms with enhanced AV IT facilities to facilitate active learning:
- GT room with flexible furniture, multiple wireless mics, and enabled wireless screen sharing
- GT room with multiple wireless mics and enabled wireless screen sharing
- GT room with Smart Panel, multiple wireless mics, and enabled wireless screen sharing using the IdeaShare mobile app.
Click on any of the classrooms on the list to view the details of the facilities and the corresponding user guide, including how to use wireless presentations in the relevant classroom.
