Summary
This talk first reviews the historical background of the emergence of modern education in Germany, introduces the lasting impact of the Humboldtian educational philosophy on the construction of industrialised powers and global higher education, and then analyses the neo-liberal educational philosophy represented by the United Kingdom that emerged after the end of the Second World War in the context of the recovery of the economic construction and the rapid population growth. By comparing the advantages and disadvantages of these two most influential higher education systems, the talk points out that higher education in the era of networked digitisation and artificial intelligence is facing an unprecedented dilemma and a vacuum phenomenon. What got us here, won't get us there. Talent development has become a mandatory part of lifelong learning for every educator.
