Summary
Laser Altimeters are very powerful tools for various applications in earth and planetary mapping. Altimeters have been in operation on spacecraft orbiting Earth, Mars, the Moon, Mercury, and small asteroids, to accurately measure global shape of the target bodies and to provide detailed maps of surface morphology. However, the accuracy of satellite laser altimetry is susceptible to real-time atmospheric conditions, within footprint topography fluctuation, detector noise, and so on. We proposed series methods to improve the quality of laser altimetry for earth and planetary topographic mapping applications.

Dr. Huan Xie is Professor and Dean of the College of Surveying and Geo-Information at the Tongji University, China. She received the B.S. degree in Surveying Engineering, and the M.S. and Ph. D. degrees in Cartography and Geoinfomation from Tongji University, Shanghai, China, in 2003, 2006, and 2009, respectively. From 2006 to 2007, she was with the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatic, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong as a research assistant. From 2007 to 2008, she was with the Institute of Photogrammetry and GeoInformation, Leibniz Universität Hannover, Germany, as a visiting scholar. Her research interests include laser altimetry, remote sensing, spatial data quality etc. She received the first prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2016. She has published more than 100 research papers in SCI journals. She has been an IEEE Senior Member since 2019 and served as an ExCom Member in IEEE GRSS Shanghai Chapter since 2015.
