Prof. Geoffrey Shen, PolyU’s director of Global Engagement, and his colleagues invited principals and teachers from 31 local secondary schools to visit PolyU in late November. During the visit, they shared the university’s latest developments and the salient features of the 4-year undergraduate curriculum, including the incorporation of two new elements: the "Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics” (AIDA) and the “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” (IE), starting from the 2022/23 cohort. In addition, the group visited PolyU’s state-of-the-art facilities including the Aviation Services Research Centre, the lab for Smart City and Spatial Big Data Analytics at the department of Land Surveying and Geo-informatics (LSGI), and the laboratories at the School of Optometry and the School of Nursing.
Prof. John Shi, Director of Smart Cities Research Institute (SCRI), PolyU, gave introduction at visit to the laboratory for smart city and spatial big data analytics. The laboratory was the forerunner of SCRI and aims at promoting the development of key technologies for smart city, including spatial big data analytics and modelling, smart navigation and mobility, and urban sensing and computing. Also, the laboratory has been proposing smart city solutions for Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, covering advanced concepts such as smart mobility, smart environment, smart people and smart governance. Besides, the lab researchers are committed to providing consultancies to the Hong Kong SAR Government on strategies and policies for smart city development.
The new scheme programme (BSc (Hons) Scheme in Spatial Data Science & Smart Cities) of LSGI was also introduced in the visit by Dr Yan Wai Yeung, Deputy Programme Leader of the programme. More programme information can be found here.
