Dr Sergey Krasilnikov finished his bachelor's and master's degrees in physical geography and landscape ecology at Moscow State University (MSU). During his education, he was involved in space exploration, where he started his scientific career in the Laboratory of Comparative Planetology of the Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry. In 2021, he got his PhD at MSU, with a topic about the evolution of ice in the northern polar region of Mars. During his education, he had a one-year internship at Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (Göttingen, Germany), studying geomorphology and processes on the comet 67P. He has broad experience in fieldwork and expeditions in earth science: ecological research, geological exploration, and permafrost research. During his last few years at Vernadsky Institute, he was a member of the Academic Council and the head of the Young Scientists Council.
Research Overview
Remote sensing and geospatial analysis. Investigation of geological and geomorphological processes on terrestrial planets and their satellites (focused on the Moon and Mars) using remote sensing data. Geomorphology and nucleus physical properties of comet 67P. Scientific and engineering support of space landing missions.
