His research work involves the development of data systems and computer models of cities and regions,
He has published many books and articles in this area, the most recent being Cities and Complexity (MIT Press, Cambridge, MA, 2007) and The New Science of Cities (MIT Press, Cambridge, MA, 2013), both of which have been awarded the Alonso Prize of the Regional Science Association in 2011 and 2017. He is editor of the journal Environment and Planning B.
Education and Academic Qualifications
He received his BA degree from The University of Manchester in Town and Country Planning in 1966 and his PhD in Architecture from the University of Wales in 1984.
Professional Qualifications
Academic and Professional Experience
Prior to his current position, he was Professor of City Planning and Dean of the School of Environmental Design at the University of Wales at Cardiff from 1979 to 1990 and then Director of the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis at the State University of New York at Buffalo from 1990 to 1995.
