“Belt and Road Advanced Professional Development Programme in Power and Energy” attracted record attendance

The Hongkong Electric Company, Limited (HK Electric); State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid); The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) have co-organised the “Belt and Road Advanced Professional Development Programme in Power and Energy” (the Programme) for the fifth consecutive year. A total of 319 energy professionals from 26 countries/regions completed the training programme this year, a record high in the number of participants. The theme for this year was “High-quality, Sustainable, Resilient Power Grid for Green and Smart Living”, which urged action on sustainable development to create better living. A total of 10 webinars and talks were held during the 5-day training. More than 300 participants across the power industry, including senior executives from Government agencies, energy companies, academics and researchers from Belt and Road countries joined the programme. Addressing the Closing Ceremony, Mr WAN Chi-tin, Managing Director of HK Electric said, “With the outbreak of the COVID-19, Hong Kong like any other country or region, faced enormous challenges. In 2021, thanks to our extraordinary resilience, we managed to achieve a supply reliability rating in excess of 99.9999% for the second consecutive year. This translates to a power interruption of less than half a minute on average for our customers during the year. This serves as another record for our business and a truly exceptional performance in our industry.” Mr LI Ming, State Grid’s Director of International Cooperation Department said, “During the past five years, under the collaborative efforts of all parties, the programme has become a success with energy and innovation. State Grid is open minded about sharing the practices and benefits in promoting energy transition and building a power system based on new energy. With the success of the programme, we wish that we can continue to work together in tackling the two major challenges of energy security and energy transition, and move towards a brighter and greener future.” Mr LIU Yunhou, President of State Grid’s China Technology College, also remarked, “Not only has the number of participants reached a record high this year, but the theme is popular, covering the current situation and future development of energy industry. We sincerely wish the collaboration among the four parties will continue to flourish in the years to come. Professor H.C. MAN, Dean of Faculty of Engineering of PolyU, said, “PolyU is committed to offering education, research innovation and knowledge transfer to meet societal needs. In line with the strategic development of carbon neutrality and green energy in China and the world, PolyU has been actively conducting and promoting researches in these aspects in recent years. The Belt and Road Development Programme provides an important platform for researchers and senior management talents in the region to have in-depth exchanges and discussions on green energy and energy management issues. Over the past 5 years, we have built up connections with hundreds of professionals in the Belt and Road region. We look forward to fostering further collaborations with them to tackle the energy challenges for the benefit of mankind.” Professor GUAN Xiaohong, Academician of Chinese Academy of Science and Dean of Faculty of Electronic and Information Engineering of XJTU, said, “We are delighted that the programme has continued to attract more participants in the Belt and Road regions. These activities have not only enhanced mutual understanding and technical exchanges, but also further deepened the collaborations amongst electricity supply companies, universities, and research institutions. We sincerely hope this event can continue to flourish, keep offering updated discoveries, experiences, and outcomes, benefitting practitioners in energy and power industry.” Since the programme commenced in 2018, it has attracted nearly 800 professionals, providing more than 10,000 hours of exchanges, both online and offline training, as well as field trips over the past five years. The four parties will continue to organise activities in the coming future with diverse themes to contribute to the development of the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as promoting the experience and knowledge exchanges among senior management executives in power and energy-related fields.

PolyU further contributes to the development of China's aerospace technology by collaborating with the Academy of Aerospace Propulsion Technology in establishing the “Joint Research Centre of Advanced Aerospace Propulsion Technology”

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Academy of Aerospace Propulsion Technology (AAPT) have signed an agreement to establish the “Joint Research Centre of Advanced Aerospace Propulsion Technology”. Led by the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering (AAE) of PolyU, the collaboration aims to establish a highly competitive scientific research force and technical cooperation team in the field of advanced aerospace propulsion technology through a long-term and in-depth strategic partnership. It is expected to further contribute to the development of China's aerospace technology. Advanced aerospace propulsion technology is a future-oriented field with broad application prospects. PolyU and AAPT have formed an ongoing complementary partnership to establish the “Joint Research Centre of Advanced Aerospace Propulsion Technology”. The five-year cooperation plan involves a number of joint research and development projects. Adhering to the global future development direction of aerospace propulsion technology, the projects will focus on the research and development of key technologies, and enhance the engineering research and production capabilities in the field. The signing ceremony for the cooperation agreement was held on 4 July 2022. The document of cooperation was signed by Professor Christopher CHAO, Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU and Mr LI Bin, Associate Dean of AAPT, and was witnessed by Professor Jin-Guang TENG, President of PolyU and Mr WANG Wanjun, Dean of AAPT. PolyU’s President, Professor Jin-Guang Teng said, “AAPT is the R&D centre of liquid propellant rocket engines in China. PolyU and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) have been working closely together to support the Nation's space exploration and research. This new collaboration will further support the development and modernisation of the Nation’s civil aerospace industry, manned spaceflight and space exploration. PolyU is honoured to continue its ongoing contribution to the development of the Nation’s aerospace science and technology.” Mr Wang Wanjun, Dean of AAPT said, “PolyU AAE has a world-leading research foundation, as well as design experience in aerospace and aeronautical propulsion technology. With PolyU’s comprehensive professional facilities and intelligence resources, the Joint Research Centre for Advanced Aerospace Propulsion Technology can become an influential platform for knowledge exchange. It will be of great benefit to the promotion of research and technological development in the field.” In addition to several joint research projects, this collaboration is also committed to cultivating a group of high-level interdisciplinary experts for future applications. “This collaboration will facilitate academic exchanges and resources sharing, and support scholars in conducting various academic seminars more efficiently, while also nurturing high-tech talents such as research doctoral students and visiting scholars. The joint research team will additionally be involved in a wide range of joint research programmes to foster major projects.” said Professor Chao, Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU. Mr Li, Associate Dean of AAPT said, “The Joint Research Centre will push the cooperation between PolyU and CASC to a new height. This longer-term and comprehensive partnership will serve and support the country's major needs and implementation of its technology projects.” PolyU’s Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering The Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering (AAE) is committed to leading the development of the field of aeronautical and aviation engineering by amalgamating the experts in the Faculty and the industry. It has a rich history and solid background in engaging in academic research, and industrial collaborations related to aeronautical and aerospace engineering. AAE is well known for its researches in advanced technologies including supersonic combustion ramjet, liquid-propellant rocket engine and propellant combustion globally. Academy of Aerospace Propulsion Technology (AAPT) Established in 1965, the Academy of Aerospace Propulsion Technology (AAPT) is one of China’s core aerospace science and technology research units, owned by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC). It has 11 units, which are all equipped with advanced facilities for innovation and research, production, and testing. As the only research centre in China focusing on aerospace propulsion technology, its development and production of various propulsion systems have been supporting the Nation’s space exploration and aerospace technology modernization and development.

PolyU, XJTU, State Grid and HK Electric continue collaboration on the “Belt and Road Advanced Professional Development Programme in Power and Energy” to nurture senior talent for the energy industry

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU); Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU); State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid) and The Hongkong Electric Company, Limited (HK Electric) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to extend their joint collaboration in running the “Belt and Road Advanced Professional Development Programme in Power and Energy” (The Programme) for another three years. The Programme aims to nurture senior management talent in power and energy-related fields through diversified, cross-regional, systematic and innovative training schemes to meet the rising demand for talent in the Belt and Road countries and regions, thereby promoting the sustainable development of infrastructure and facilitating economic growth in these countries and regions in line with the Belt and Road strategies of the Nation. This cross-regional and multi-cultural university-industry collaboration programme is the first-of-its-kind in both Mainland China and Hong Kong. The Silk Road International School of Engineering (SRISE) was set up jointly by PolyU and XJTU in 2017, and later partnered with State Grid and HK Electric to organise the first university-industry collaboration programme of this type, with a view to nurturing senior talent for the power and energy industry. The Programme has attracted more than 200 industry professionals from Belt and Road countries/regions, and has generated nearly 5,300 contact hours through talks, seminars and field trips, achieving remarkable results in promoting knowledge exchange among the participants. PolyU, XJTU, State Grid and HK Electric are joining forces again this year by contributing their knowledge, research findings and practical experience in the field of energy, with a view to enhancing technical cooperation and exchange across Belt and Road countries/regions. The renewed collaboration which is set for three more years will focus on short-term training and exchange initiatives. Training programmes will be run by SRISE focusing on two major themes, namely the “Key Technologies of Energy Interconnection” and “Electricity Supply in International Cities”. Various seminars, field trips to energy facilities in the Mainland and Hong Kong as well as sharing sessions will be organised to facilitate learning on cutting-edge energy knowledge and understanding of the latest research findings in the field, as well as promoting sharing and exchange of practical experiences among industry players. The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding was held online in Hong Kong and Mainland China simultaneously. Professor Jin-Guang TENG, PolyU’s President, attended and witnessed the ceremony. He said, “PolyU’s motto is ‘To learn and to apply, for the benefit of mankind’. It is our mission to support the advancement of society and the economy through teaching and scientific research. PolyU will hence continue to collaborate with other parties in education, research and knowledge transfer to contribute to the development of countries and regions along the Belt and Road.” Professor Xiaohong GUANG, member of Chinese Academy of Science, Dean of the School of Electronic and Information Engineering of XJTU, said, “Over the past three years, we have successfully held three editions of the ‘Belt and Road Advanced Professional Development Programme in Power and Energy’ with the joint efforts of four parties. The tremendous social impact of the programme has not only enhanced mutual understanding and technology sharing, but also deepened the cooperation between industry players, academics and researchers. A training team has also been groomed through this programme. We hope that the renewal of the cooperation agreement will enrich our collaboration further, helping us to make this training programme well-recognised in the industry.” Mr LIU Yunhou, President of the State Grid of China Technology College, also remarked, “With the earnest collaboration between four parties, the ‘Belt and Road Advanced Professional Development Programme in Power and Energy’ has become a university-industry alliance, and a role model for Mainland- Hong Kong collaboration in serving Belt and Road initiatives. I sincerely hope that the four parties will focus on the ‘dual carbon’ goals (note: China aims to have CO2 emissions peak before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060, as pledged by President Xi at the general debate of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly in 2020), and keep up with the latest developments of power and energy, to launch more well-recognised seminars in a systematic manner. I look forward to the flourishing of our collaboration that brings about greater vitality for the energy sector.” Managing Director of HK Electric, Mr WAN Chi-tin, welcomed the extension of collaboration. He said, “Despite the impact of the pandemic, HK Electric has set a new supply reliability record last year, achieving an impeccable rating of over 99.9999% and unplanned power interruption of less than 0.5 minute on average per customer. To combat climate change, three new gas-fired generating units are expected to come on stream by 2023, while an offshore liquefied natural gas terminal will also be in operation by 2022. By increasing the use of natural gas for power generation, from currently around 50% of total output to around 70% by 2023, we hope to reduce carbon emissions by 40% as compared to the 2005 level. We are happy to share our strategies and carbon reduction experience with our peers from the Belt and Road countries/regions.” The first training programme of 2021 is planned to be conducted online in the fourth quarter of this year. More seminars for senior executives in the power and energy sector as well as exchange sessions for researchers and academics will also be held in the future.

香港理大與西安交大合辦第六屆絲路國際暑期班開幕

2019年7月1日,香港理工大學(理大)和西安交通大學(西安交大)共同籌辦的絲路國際暑期班在兩校位於西安的合作基地正式拉開帷幕。 開幕典禮在兩校師生熱烈的掌聲中展開。本屆絲路國際暑期班的主題為服務領袖,亮點包括兩個新課程:服務領袖訓練營和服務有特殊需要的兒童及家庭服務學習計劃。課程旨在通過系統化的教學和實踐,培養學生具有服務領袖的核心素質,以應對不斷變化的社會需求。本次暑期班得到兩校校友的鼎力支持,在課程安排和內容上給予協助,使之更豐富充實,因而吸引了包括超過130名香港理大學生,約50名西安交大學生,以及10名香港中學生在內的近200名學生參與,來自不同專業和年級的學生將在暑期班一起體驗學習服務領袖素質。   服務領袖訓練營由西安交大人文社會科學學院青年領導力中心承辦,學生通過課堂、講座、企業考察及文化體驗等活動認識現今服務領袖的相關概念,以及學習服務領袖所需具備的條件和素質。   服務有特殊需要的兒童及家庭服務學習計劃由西安交大附屬小學金輝分校承辦,課程曾獲香港及國際教育獎項。學生將在老師的指導下,通過生動活潑的課堂活動,服務包括西安交大附小金輝分校的學生,以及來自陝西平利縣、柞水縣、旬邑縣、周至縣、衡山縣等地區的貧困生在內的逾260名小學生。   出席開幕典禮的主要領導包括:西安交大黨委常委、統戰部長張定紅女士、理大協理副校長(本科生課程)石丹理教授,以及西安交大人文社會科學學院院長李黎明教授。三位領導分別在典禮上致辭,勉勵同學積极參與和學習,日後將習得的知識和技能運用到生活當中,造福社會。香港理大和西安交大學生代表也在典禮上分享了學習經歷和對課程的期待。   為期一個月的絲路國際暑期班由2014年起已經連續舉辦了六屆,課程有助於促進不同文化和背景的學生之間相互了解,開拓視野,深受同學歡迎。

PolyU provides “Tanzania Leadership Programme” to nurture talents for Belt & Road region

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) today launched a leadership programme for 100 Tanzania's young professionals from various sectors. The first batch of 30 Tanzanian young professionals will attend a one-week programme consisting of expert lectures, field visits in Hong Kong and Shenzhen as well as knowledge sharing sessions, focusing on areas crucial for Tanzania's development, namely: green manufacturing, urban planning, information technology for international trade, tourism, and public health. The Tanzania Leadership Programme is organised by PolyU's Institute of Advanced Executive Education. PolyUlaunched the Belt and Road Cross-Professional Advancement Programme in January 2019, providing a platform for Hong Kong's professionals and Mainland enterprise leaders to exchange knowledge and share experience, as well as to network, explore market opportunities and develop multilateral collaborations. The University also aims to leverage its expertise to share best practices and experiences with the high-potential future leaders of other Belt and Road countries such as Tanzania. The opening ceremony of the Programme was officiated by Mr Mbelwa KAIRUKI, Ambassador of United Republic of Tanzania in People's Republic of China,and Dr Miranda LOU, Executive Vice President of PolyU. Addressing the ceremony, Dr Lou said, "PolyU has been playing its role to nurture young talents for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) since 2014. We have established a platform to leverage PolyU's expertise and international network for capacity building, and thereby fostering talent development, knowledge transfer and research development for the sustainable advancement of the Belt and Road countries. This Programme is another PolyU's initiative to offer cross-cultural youth leadership programmes to Tanzania future global leaders." She added that there were more than 700 students from the Belt and Road countries last year in PolyU, some of them were from Africa. Apart from academic programmes, PolyU also supports enterprises and professionals to embrace the opportunities arising from the BRI. Since 2014, the University has offered more than 390 consultancy services and executive training to organisations from Belt and Road countries. Tanzania, as one of Africa's fastest growing economies, has its strategic role in the BRI. Mr Kairuki, who flew in Hong Kong to attend the opening, said, "Our country needs such kind of youth with vigour and zeal to make a difference and transform it from where it is to a more prosperous nation. And that starts with learning new ideas and new ways and from new experiences. I saw a need for my country as well to invest in building the capacity of the young and upcoming leaders in various industries. I saw nowhere fit for this than Hong Kong and especially at the Institute of Advance Executive Education and the PolyU." Under the Programme, the 30 Tanzanian participants will conduct field trips related to the five focused areas of the Programme, such as visiting PolyU's innovative facilities, the City Gallery (displaying the vision for the city's planning projects), Shatin (one of the new towns in Hong Kong that exhibits a success case in town planning), textile upcycling factory (using innovative technologies to provide a solution for textile waste recycling), as well as Huawei Shenzhen Campus (showcasing the emerging tech of a smartphone giant). By the end of the Programme, the young professionals, from varied sectors ranging from telecommunications, information technology, marketing, social enterprise, manufacturing, sustainability, finance, tourism to public health, will also work on action plans for specific areas of development in Tanzania. The Programme will run in a series, each will cater for a cohort of 30 Tanzanian young professionals. PolyU's Institute of Advanced Executive Education is also planning to extend similar training to other Belt and Road countries.

理大啟動首屆海峽兩岸暨香港服務學習研討會 推動高等院校服務學習的發展

5月12日,香港理工大學(香港理大)與西安交通大學(西安交大)于西安啟動「首屆海峽兩岸暨香港服務學習研討會」,這是中國服務學習歷史性的時刻。借著「第四屆絲綢之路教育合作交流會」,兩校以學術互動推動海峽兩岸高等院校服務學習的發展。   西安交通大學校長王樹國、香港理工大學協理副校長石丹理、陝西省教育廳副巡視員孫建甯等有關領導出席活動開幕式,西安交大港澳臺辦副主任韋學勇主持開幕式。   參加研討會的海峽兩岸高等院校包括 : 香港理大、成功大學、復旦大學、西南財經大學、南開大學、雲南大學、四川大學、汕頭大學及珠海城市職業技術學院等。與會學者們首次分享各院校服務學習的經驗與研究,並推廣採用服務學習作為培育學生全人發展的教育方向之一。   香港理大協理副校長石丹理教授表示: 「這是首次彙集中國內地、臺灣及香港的學者共同探討服務學習的課題,並分享在不同華人社會推行的經驗。期望凝聚海峽兩岸學者,提升大學生的全面發展。」   西安交大學王樹國校長致辭中指出:「大學已不再是未來教育的唯一形式,如果大學的教育思想、理念乃至實踐不能引領社會,那大學將會被社會所淘汰。對此,教育工作者應該保持警惕,要深入瞭解社會進步對大學提出的新要求,而服務學習為大學開闢了一片新天地。服務學習將是教育改革的一個重要方向,它讓學生有機會瞭解社會、深入社會,在體驗社會中找到自己的人生價值。希望大家利用這次研討會積極貢獻真知灼見,將服務教育發展得越來越好。」   陝西省教育廳副巡視員孫建甯在致辭中對與會嘉賓的到來表示誠摯歡迎。他表示:「今天由香港理工大學和西安交通大學共同主辦的研討會吸引了內地、香港、臺灣學者積極參與。希望大家利用好平臺,集思廣益,獻計獻策,凝聚共識,產生成果。」   研討會中,復旦大學洪瀏博士分享「高校服務學習學分課程體系的開發與管理」回顧復旦大學開展服務學習學分課程的歷史和經驗,並介紹服務學習學分課程體系的設計思路。成功大學翁裕峰博士分享了台南市左鎮區公館社區的真實案例,透過社區實踐,讓大學生參與社會服務並加強他們的同理心、認識自己及公民責任。   香港理大自2012年開創先河,將服務學習科目定立學分並設定為本科生的必修課程。在2018/19學年開辦60多個服務學習科目,當中約3000名學生參與香港本地的服務,約700名學生到內地不同省份服務,超過300名學生更遠赴海外,足跡遠至柬埔寨、越南、緬甸、印尼、吉爾吉斯斯坦、哈薩克及盧旺達等地。   近年來,香港理大積極與國內外的高校聯繫並合作推行服務學習,期望以學術互動、資源分享、合作共贏的理念,致力推動海峽兩岸高等院校服務學習的發展,栽培學生成為擁有自學能力、勇於肩負社會責任,並對國家及家庭有承擔的世界公民。

Belt and Road Advanced Professionals graduated from University-Industry Collaborated Programme of PolyU-XJTU Silk Road International School of Engineering

Senior professionals from 12 countries/regions have benefited from the Belt and Road Advanced Professional Development Programme in Power and Energy run by The Silk Road International School of Engineering (SRISE) for the second consecutive year. The graduation ceremony for the 25 participants staged today on The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) campus was officiated by Mr Matthew CHEUNG Kin-chung, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The three-year Programme run by SRISE — a joint establishment of PolyU and Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) — in partnership with State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid) and The Hongkong Electric Company, Limited (HK Electric) is the first cross-regional and multi-cultural project of its kind in Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong, and the first university-industry collaboration project of SRISE. Over the past two weeks, the 25 professionals in power and energy sector participated in field-trip studies and exchanges in Xi'an, Jinan and Hong Kong. Newly joining the Programme this year were participants from four nations, namely Brazil, Myanmar, Nigeria and Tanzania. The participants include senior executives from enterprises or government agencies, as well as veteran academics and researchers. Other officiating guests at the graduation ceremony today were: Dr Lawrence LI Kwok-chang, Deputy Council Chairman of PolyU; Professor XI Guang, Vice President, Xi'an Jiaotong University; Mr SU Qingmin, Director, Management Centre of Education Affairs, State Grid of China Technology College; and Mr WAN Chi-tin, Managing Director of HK Electric. Mr LIU Zhiming, Deputy Inspector, Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR,as well as a number of Consulate Generals or representatives from the Belt and Road region, including Malaysia, Russia and Tanzania, were also present. Addressing the ceremony, Mr Matthew CHEUNG Kin-chung, Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR, said, "Embedded with 'five areas of connectivity', namely policy co-ordination, financial integration, unimpeded trade, facilities connectivity and people-to-people bonds, the Belt and Road Initiative provides new impetus not only to the global economy, but also sustainable development. I believe that as part of PolyU's Belt and Road Strategic Platform, this Programme echoes well with one of the key focuses of the Initiative on the establishment of energy partnerships. Hong Kong has a unique role to play in this vision. The strengths of Hong Kong's energy sector in system operation, manpower development and project financing are most pertinent." Dr Lawrence LI Kwok-chang, Deputy Council Chairman of PolyU, said, "The Belt and Road Initiative is a powerful engine that not only provides numerous opportunities of development, but also creates a huge demand for professional talents. Obviously, engineers are highly sought after. As PolyU excels in the engineering discipline, we are keen to capitalize on our strengths to support the training of engineers from Chinese Mainland as well as the Belt and Road countries……We need partners in order to do a good job. We are therefore very honoured to have partners from the higher education sector and industry in both Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong to run this professional development programme." Professor XI Guang, Vice President, Xi'an Jiaotong University, said, "Through this Programme, we hope to strengthen the cooperation in technology spectrum among Belt and Road countries/regions, and to introduce a new model for university-enterprise and university-community collaboration. We also aim to implement the work plans under the University Alliance of the Silk Road framework, so as to contribute towards nurturing elite talents with global vision." Mr SU Qingmin, Director, Management Centre of Education Affairs, State Grid of China Technology College, said, "The first workshop run jointly by XJTU, PolyU, HK Electric and State Grid Technology College in April last year has received very good feedback. This year, with great enthusiasm, the four partners have meticulously planned a series of technological lectures, field trips and cultural exchange events in Xi'an, Jinan and Hong Kong. State Grid Technology College has been responsible for the 4-day activities in Jinan. We are very proud to have such opportunity to share with backbone members and elites from the industry, universities and government sector."    Mr WAN Chi-tin, Managing Director of HK Electric said the company has been providing safe and reliable power supply for Hong Kong with a world-class reliability record of over 99.999% for 22 years consecutively. "As Hong Kong is taking steps to become a Smart City, we are keen to enable our customers to use energy smartly. That is why we are investing in infrastructure that promotes the widespread adoption of information and communication technologies.  And in line with the Government's Smart City initiatives, we plan to roll out smart meters for most of our customers over the next 7 years. Through this workshop, we are happy to share with our visitors our unique experiences, " he said. This year's Programme focused on "Ultra High Voltage, Smart Grid and Electricity Infrastructure for Resilient City". The participants had field-trip study at the State Key Laboratory of Electrical Insulation and Power Equipment in Xi'an, as well as various practical training facilities of State Grid in Jinan. In Hong Kong, they visited the System Control Centre and Lamma Power Station of HK Electric, and have exchanges with PolyU academia on Artificial Intelligence for Electricity Supply. The 11-day Programme enabled them to learn about cutting-edge technologies, modern management system and advanced design of the cities' special power supply facilities, and to gain practical knowledge and experiences from veteran academics and professionals from PolyU, XJTU, State Grid and HK Electric.

讓愛承傳 西安首屆“希望旅程”服務學習夏令營結業禮

香港理工大學(香港理大)在西安首次舉辦“希望旅程”服務學習夏令營,以上海、杭州和香港為服務基地的「三城記」服務學習計畫,再連一城,讓愛延續,西安站夏令營於7月27日舉行結業禮。 “希望旅程”服務學習夏令營自2013年推行至今,已有超過千名香港理大學生參與,服務物件為外來工的子女、留守兒童、貧困生或有特殊教育需要的學生。香港理大協理副校長石丹理教授希望同學應用課堂所學,説明有需要的人;今年特別邀請香港中學生參與,有助培養其關懷他人及服務社群之心志。 今年,40多名香港理大師生及10名香港聖公會聖三一堂中學師生前往西安交通大學附屬小學金輝分校開展“希望旅程”服務學習夏令營, 本次服務物件是西安交通大學附屬小學、西安交通大學附屬小學金輝分校、榆林市橫山縣響水中心小學及安康市平利縣興隆鎮中心小學三至五年級的兒童。此夏令營旨在進一步推動外來兒童與青少年的社會融入,探索大學生和中、小學生的生命教育及全人發展,為兒童與青少年的生命和成長提供更豐富多彩的體驗。夏令營課程包含英語學習、科學知識、健康教育及個人成長四方面的內容。 香港理大是香港首家把服務學習列入大學必修課程的學府,負責設計課程的香港理大協理副校長石丹理教授在結業禮上表示:「我們不斷尋求創新,今年“希望旅程”邀請了香港聖公會聖三一堂中學的同學們一起參與服務,大學生和中學生一起為可愛的小學生服務,他們打破地域文化的差異,加上愛心,充分發揮團隊精神,十天的課程,旨在培養學生的道德品格, 關心他人及領導能力等服務領袖的素質。」 香港理大學生作為夏令營導師,中學生作為糾察及輔助角色,讓小學生們感受到哥哥姐姐的照顧, 並大幅度提高了學習興趣,發掘出他們不同的潛能。 今年西安作為服務計畫的一個新地點,十分成功,與杭州及上海項目一樣, 獲得香港理大中國內地事務處的協助及安排,並得到香港的中學支援,派出高中生全程參與,以豐富中學生在新高中課程內全面發展的機會。 香港理大推行多個通識課程,其中這個與服務學習計畫相關的科目,獲得了今年國際大學評級機構(QS)的“全球教學創新大獎”之“可持續性”組別金獎。

香港理工大學與西安交通大學合辦 第五屆「絲路國際暑期班」西安啟動

「絲路國際暑期班2018」於7月2日在西安正式啟動。 由香港理工大學(香港理大)和西安交通大學(西安交大)共同籌辦的絲路國際暑期班自2014年開始已經舉辦了五屆。隨著「絲綢之路大學聯盟」的成立,更多一帶一路的大學參與到此活動中,至今已有700多名學生參加了暑期班(包括香港理大學生、海外學生和中國內地學生)。明曦公益基金會再次贊助此項活動。 今年,暑期班錄取了近140位來自香港理大、西安交大、哈薩克國立大學、哈薩克納紮爾巴耶夫大學及俄羅斯聖彼德堡彼得大帝理工大學的優秀學生,在西安與敦煌進行學習與訪問。 暑期班為期一個月,包括「可持續發展概況與應用」及「絲路東段文化與歷史」兩個課程。參與「可持續發展概況與應用」課程的學生通過課堂、企業考察及文化體驗活動認識綠色能源及可持續發展的概念。參加「絲路東段文化與歷史」課程的學生,在專家學者的指導下參與課堂學習、訪談、參觀,到敦煌絲綢之路的重鎮,考察著名的文化遺址,體驗和感受古人文化聚集的環境與現代文化聚集環境之差異,認識傳統與現代的關係再到西安。同學在瞭解中國歷史及文化之餘,同時體驗當代中國的活力,結交不同背景的新朋友。 出席啟動禮的嘉賓包括 : 西安交通大學副校長席光教授、香港理工大學協理副校長(本科生課程)石丹理教授、西安交通大學管理學院副院長蘇秦教授、香港理工大學中國內地事務總監羅璿博士及西安交通大學港澳臺事務辦公室主任賀長中先生。 香港理工大學協理副校長(本科生課程)石丹理教授在致辭時提及可持續發展的重要性,而可持續發展有籟各國之間的交流、合作、融合。希望同學通過參與絲路國際暑期班能親身體驗不同地區的文化,與不同地域、不同大學的學生交流,瞭解他們國家的政治、經濟和社會的發展; 同時,還勉勵同學以暑期班充實自己、開拓視野、建立友誼,為自己的未來發展作好準備。 西安交通大學副校長席光教授致辭表示,西安為古絲路的起點,兩千年前,張騫出使西域,促進了兩地的交往。今天,絲路國際暑期班在西安舉行,意義重大,希望同學們互相認識,彼此交流,通過課堂和文化景點參觀加深對絲路及西安的瞭解。 以往參加暑期班的學生來自香港特區、中國內地、歐洲、北美、東亞、澳洲以及中亞10多個國家和地區。暑期班有助促進民族間的相互瞭解,開拓國際視野,深受同學歡迎。

“新機遇、新引擎、新發展” 共同培養“一帶一路”創新人才

 「絲綢之路大學聯盟校長論壇」于5月12日在西安舉行,並吸引了26個國家及地區87所高校的150多位代表參加。圍繞著本屆的主題 “新機遇、新引擎、新發展”,與會嘉賓深入探討了 “一帶一路”倡議對國際高等教育合作帶來的機遇“和“創新創業型人才培養與大學使命” 為繼續推進絲綢之路大學聯盟框架下高校之間的實質性交流與合作,就人才培養與高等教育展開對話。   香港理工大學行政副校長盧麗華博士在會上發表主題演講,她表示:「香港理大作為“絲綢之路大學聯盟”的發起成員之一,在過去幾年通過與聯盟成員開展了緊密合作,積極培育為未來作好淮備的學生,和有社會責任感的世界公民。」香港理大與聯盟成員擴大收生及學生交流的合作,加強校園國際化和増加欣賞體驗不同文化的機會;通過在一帶一路地區工作/實習經驗,提供多元文化環境以拓寬國際視野。此外,提供在一帶一路地區服務機會,説明學生瞭解社會問題和培養服務心志。而在研究方面,香港理大持續強化實力,與聯盟成員加強學人互訪,舉辦研究實習計劃,和進行一帶一路專題研究,其中包括社會文化融合與包容研究,一帶一路災害風險管理,一帶一路物流及航運學研究等。盧博士表示由香港理大和西安交通大學共建的「絲綢之路國際工程學院」首個校企合作專案 –「一帶一路電力能源高管人才發展計畫」與電力和能源企業合作, 在內地和香港同類跨地域、跨文化的校企協作計畫中均屬首創,首批學員已於今年四月成功結業。展望未來,盧博士說:「香港理大希望通過絲綢之路大學聯盟,積極擴大合作網路,為一帶一路的建設共同培育多元人才,實現大學使命,延展影響力。」 會上,陝西省教育廳副廳長王紫貴先生表示,陝西省在“一帶一路”倡議下,主動發揮文化與科教資源優勢,積極推動全方位、多層次、寬領域對外交流與合作,在人才培養、科學研究、社會服務等方面效果卓著。陝西省教育廳將在絲綢之路精神的引領下,積極推動陝西教育“引進來”與“走出去”,不斷加快陝西教育國際化步伐。 西安交通大學校長王樹國教授認為,“絲綢之路大學聯盟校長論壇”是“絲綢之路大學聯盟”重要活動之一,是彙聚世界高校先進管理和育人經驗的重要平臺,希望與會高校代表集思廣益、積極探討,共同為培養世界一流人才建言獻策。 同日下午也召開了第四屆絲綢之路大學聯盟常務理事會會議。作為聯盟的發起成員,盧博士也在會議上分享了香港理大在災難風險管理圓桌會議專案方面的工作和成果。此項目旨在發展跨境的研究集群,發現一帶一路區域內顯著的研究課題,和多學科視角下的交流經驗。 絲綢之路大學聯盟是基於“一帶一路”的倡議,由香港理工大學和西安交通大學於2015年共同發起,積極參與建設“智力絲綢之路”,在科學、教育、文化、民間交往等各領域開展了廣泛合作。目前有與來自絲路沿線36個國家和地區的136間大學結盟,通過雙邊或多邊的合作協定,加強成員之間的培育人才、促進研究、轉移技術、提高專業水準和應對行業需求。
