Small liquid hypergolic rocket engines are widely used in spacecraft attitude and orbit control scenarios. Impinging jets atomizer with hypergolic propellants is almost irreplaceable for this small rockets due to its simple structure and fine atomization performance. From a fundamental point of view, hypergolic propellants combustion is inherently involved with complex multiphase flow, phase change and both liquid and gas phase reaction chemistry. Understanding of this process is essentially important for high efficiency thrust chamber design, especially in developing high chamber pressure engines. This talk presents our most recent work in this topic, including the impinging jets atomization, the droplet evaporation at engine like condition, and hypergolic combustion using the practical MMH-NTO combinations, at high chamber pressures.

Abstract

Prof. TANG obtained his PhD degree from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2011. He has worked as a research collaborator at Princeton University from 2009 to 2011. He is currently a Professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University, where he conducts research on new concept propulsion and reactive flows in liquid rocket engines. His research has received support from 5 National Natural Science Foundation grants. Prof. TANG has served in various leadership roles, including as a program chair of the National Youth Combustion Conference, a committee member of the Professional Association of Munitions Safety of the Chinese Society of Astronautics, and a member of the Technical Committee of the Chinese National Space Science and Technology Center. Prof. TANG has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the National Natural Science Award and the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award. He has authored/co-authored more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals, with an H-index of 42 in high-impact journals such as Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Physics of Fluids, Combustion and Flame, and Proceedings of the Combustion Institute.
