Prof. Alex MIHAILIDIS, Associate Vice President of International Partnerships at the University of Toronto delivered the 19th PAIR Distinguished Lecture titled “The Future of Elder Care: Integrating Large Language Models” on 26 April 2024. The lecture attracted about 100 participants to join in person and captivated an online viewing audience of over 14,100 from different countries and regions to watch the live broadcast on multiple social media platforms, including Bilibili, WeChat, Weibo, YouTube, etc.

This presentation introduces the global urgent requirements for innovative metal-forming technologies for producing high-strength, lightweight and complex-shaped engineering components for transportation vehicles for energy saving and CO2 emission reduction. A few examples of innovative metal-forming techniques and modelling methods, developed at Imperial’s Metal-Forming and Materials Modelling Group, are presented, and future challenges are given.

Gut microbiome expert Prof. Eugene B. CHANG delivers PAIR Distinguished Lecture

In his presentation, Prof. Chang first gave some fun facts about the human gut microbiome and explained that it is a vital organ of the body. Next, he elaborated on the importance of understanding a healthy gut microbiome and keeping it healthy. Prof. Chang stated that it is comparatively easy to determine the health of a vital organ through different tests but not the gut microbiome.
