Prof Michael BATTY from University College London delivers distinguished lecture on science

The PAIR Distinguished Lecture delivered by Prof. Michael BATTY, Bartlett Professor of Planning at University College London, was successfully held on 1 September 2023. The lecture was moved completely online given special arrangements under Super Tyhoon Saola. The webinar attracted over 300 participants from more than 30 countries and regions. It was also broadcasted live on multiple social media platforms, including Bilibili and Weibo, and viewed by over 11,000 online audience in total.

Global Smart Cities Summit cum the 3rd International Conference on Urban Informatics commences

The Global Smart Cities Summit cum the 3rd International Conference on Urban Informatics (GSCS & ICUI 2023), organised by the Otto Poon Charitable Foundation Smart Cities Research Institute (SCRI) and the International Society for Urban Informatics (ISUI) commenced on 21 August 2023. This three-day conference has attracted over 500 participants globally and over 230 speakers will share their insights and research on urban informatics and smart cities.

China Harbour-PolyU Joint Research Centre for Land Developments first technical seminar successfully held

The China Harbour–PolyU Joint Research Centre for Land Development (JRC) held its first technical seminar “Treatment and Reuse of Municipal Solid Waste Incineration Ash” on 18 July 2023. The seminar was kicked off with a welcome speech by Prof. DAI Jianguo, Co-Director of JRC and Management Committee Member of the Research Institute for Land and Space (RILS) of PolyU. Eight speakers from PolyU, City University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen University and Guangdong Environmental Protection Group Co. Ltd. delivered presentations on the value-added utilisation of municipal solid waste incineration ash in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. The seminar was also joined by a four-person delegation from China Harbour led by the Mr SUN Hualei, Co-Director of JRC and General Manager of Administration Department of China Harbour Engineering Co. Ltd (Hong Kong).

20230718 RISUD Annual International Symposium successfully held

The Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development (RISUD) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) successfully held its annual international symposium on 6–7 July 2023 on campus. Under the theme of “Urban Sustainability through Innovative Technologies”, the Symposium brought together about 50 speakers from across the globe to deliver plenary presentations and workshops.

PAIR Conference 2023 commences

The PolyU Academy for Interdisciplinary Research (PAIR) Conference 2023, the first and the largest event in Hong Kong higher education dedicated to professional knowledge exchange on interdisciplinary research and development, commenced yesterday (8 May). Themed on “Research Excellence for Societal Impacts”, the four-day event draws over 100 internationally renowned scholars and experts from different disciplines as distinguished speakers to share their knowledge and insights. Prof. YAN Nieng, Founding President of the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation, delivered a plenary presentation on the frontier research of proteins that may facilitate the pharmaceutical development of pain relief solutions.
