PolyU team bags student innovation grand prize at Hong Kong ICT Awards
A PolyU team from the Research Group of AI for Industrial Digital Servitization (RAIDS) stood out from over 300 competing teams and won the Student Innovation Grand Award in the Hong Kong ICT Awards 2022.
The team, comprising Mr Tsang Chin-lok, MPhil student from the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering, Mr Li Chengxi, PhD student from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, and Ms Kwok Hin-chi, a third-year undergraduate student from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, also won the Gold Award in the “Tertiary or Above” stream.
Their winning project – Mutual Cognitive Human-Robot Collaborative Manufacturing System – aims to enhance the intelligence of industrial collaborative robots with the use of a cognitive AI model and an AR platform in human-robot collaboration, thus fostering human-centric smart manufacturing.
Ir Dr Zheng Pai, Assistant Professor of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and the leader of RAIDS, congratulated the trio.
“I hope they will continue to pursue innovation and achieve great success in their future ventures,” Dr Zheng added.
Ms Kwok has been enrolled under the PolyU Undergraduate Research and Innovation Scheme, which provides undergraduate students with opportunities to undertake research projects under the guidance and supervision of academic staff who are strong in research.
The Student Innovation Award is one of eight categories under the Hong Kong ICT Awards, providing a platform for local ICT talents to demonstrate their outstanding work and achievement in the ICT industry. It also aims to promote the development of the local IT industry and to offer young people greater opportunities in accessing and learning about new technology with a view to broadening their horizons and stimulating their creativity.
