Olympic gold fencer Cheung Ka-long shares his athletic and personal life with the PolyU community
Mr Cheung Ka-long, Hong Kong’s gold medallist in Men’s Foil Individual at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, met with about 300 staff, students and alumni on campus in December 2022. The fencing star revealed how he is preparing for the Paris Olympics, discussed his athletic and personal life, interacted with students, and shared the fun of sports with the audience. A few lucky participants were instructed by Mr Cheung personally on the basic skills of fencing.
PolyU recently conferred an honorary doctorate to Mr Cheung in recognition of his outstanding achievements in sports. In the sharing session, Mr Cheung also discussed how he maintains a positive spirit in his studies and life to achieve his goals.
Dr Lam Tai-fai, Council Chairman of PolyU and Chairman of the Hong Kong Sports Institute, applauded Mr Cheung’s Herculean feat in capturing Hong Kong SAR’s first Olympic gold medal.
“At PolyU, we are committed to fostering a vibrant sports culture on campus. As Ka-long has now become a member of the PolyU community, I hope he can help the University’s sports development, especially in fencing. I also believe his spirit, dedication and determination would inspire PolyU students,” Dr Lam said.
