PolyU research has garnered recognition in the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited (BOCHK) Science and Technology Innovation Prize 2023 (STIP) for its remarkable achievements in the categories of “Advanced Manufacturing” and “FinTech”.

 

The “STIP in Advanced Manufacturing” was awarded to Prof. Cheung Chi Fai Benny, Chair Professor of Ultra-precision Machining and Metrology of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Ultra-precision Machining Technology (The Hong Kong Polytechnic University) for his state-of-the-art ultra-precision nano multi-ring machining technology. Meanwhile, the “STIP in FinTech” honoured the team of Prof. Au Man Ho Allen, Professor of the Department of Computing and Prof. Luo Xiapu Daniel, Professor of the Department of Computing for their ground-breaking research on the design and analysis of privacy-enhancing and quantum-resistant cryptographic algorithms advancing blockchain technology.

 

Laureates from each category, whether individual or group, receive a HK$2 million prize sponsored by BOCHK in recognition of their contributions to scientific research and the translation of research outcomes in Hong Kong.

 

Established in 2022 by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation and title-sponsored by BOCHK, the BOCHK STIP has garnered widespread support and enthusiastic nominations from universities, researchers and innovative enterprises. Every year, distinguished scholars and experts from Hong Kong and overseas are invited to select the outstanding individuals and teams, recognising their pioneering efforts and the application and translation of research achievements for the betterment of society.

 

Since the inception of this prestigious award last year, PolyU has reinforced its position as the leading institution in Hong Kong, securing a total of four awards.
