The PolyU campus recently came alive with vibrant colours and a joyful spirit during the first-ever Mid-Autumn Festival Gala, a highlight of the PolyU Chinese Culture Festival. This enchanting evening drew an impressive crowd of 7,000 PolyU members, including students, staff, alumni, and their families. Participants were treated to a rich tapestry of cultural performances that beautifully showcased the heritage and artistry of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Adding to the festive atmosphere were stunning light projections that illuminated the campus buildings, featuring intricate lantern and rabbit motifs on the walls surrounding the University Square. The Gala kicked off with an opening ceremony hosted by Dr Lam Tai-fai, PolyU Council Chairman, Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President, Dr Katherine Ngan Ng Yu-ying, University Court Chairman, and members of the University management team.

The performances began with a Chinese dance that transported everyone through time to experience the charm of the Tang Dynasty with their graceful dance moves and elegant costumes. The highlight of the evening was the exceptional Hanfu Fashion Show, showcasing the beauty of traditional Chinese costumes. Students from the School of Fashion and Textiles meticulously crafted 18 unique Chinese outfits by blending traditional Chinese elements with modern fashion design, worn by student models from different departments.

The evening also featured a delightful array of festive treats, including mooncakes made with AkkMore™, a novel fungus-based fat replacer developed by PolyU’s Research Institute for Future Food (RiFood) and the Department of Food Science and Nutrition.
