Dr MOMENIAN Mohammad

Dr. Mohammad Momenian is currently Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Dr. Momenian has a PhD in Neurolinguistics. He has two main research strands. One is to look into how language-specific properties have an effect on the neural representation and processing of languages in the brain. The other, more recent, strand focuses on the role of individual differences in modifying age-related decline in language comprehension in the older population. He employs different neuroimaging modalities such as EEG and fMRI along with ecologically valid behavioural measurements for both of his research strands. Using a multi-dimensional approach, he endeavours to present a thorough picture of the language and brain across the lifespan amid diverse populations.

Research Interest

I am interested in how healthy aging affects linguistic abilities adopting an ‘individual differences’ approach. It is important to collect data on individual differences when it comes to healthy aging research because we know the rate of cognitive decline is not consistent across people. I am interested in using naturalistic tasks while acquiring both EEG and fMRI data. I think only by using naturalistic tasks, are we able to look into the spatiotemporal dynamics of healthy aging in the brain.
