Biography
Ir Dr Eric TAM is the Director of Jockey Club Rehabilitation Engineering Clinic and the Deputy Director of Jockey Club Smart Ageing Hub, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is also the Associate Dean(S) and Section Head (Student Resources and Support) at PolyU Student Affairs Office.
With his background in biomedical engineering, Dr. Tam specializes in rehabilitation engineering and is dedicated to serving individuals with disabilities and older adults. He provides assistive technologies to enhance their quality of life. Among his notable innovations is the eNightLog—a multifunctional nighttime monitoring system designed for elderly individuals with dementia. This system prevents falls and wandering by tracking their respiration and activities in bed and was awarded the Gold Medal at the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. Additionally, Dr. Tam and his team developed the iWheelchair, which is designed to identify signals of potential falls and prolonged inactivity for early intervention.
