Biography

Prof. Christian GREIFFENHAGEN is an Associate Professor of Sociology in the Department of Applied Social Sciences, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). After obtaining the PhD degree in Social Science and Computer Science at the University of Oxford, he had received postdoctoral training in University of Oxford, University of Manchester, Loughborough University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. 

As a sociologist with a background in computer science, Prof. Greiffenhagen has the research interests of Science & Technology Studies (STS) and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). He applies innovative methods in particular video-based ethnography) to understand the transformation on work, learning and daily life by new scientific developments. His works have been published in top-tier journals such as Sociology and Social Studies of Science. Besides as a Principal Investigator (PI), Prof. Grieffenhagen has received research grants for around total HK$7,500,000 from funders including but not limited to the University Grants Council, CareCapital Advisors Limited and Cogito Foundation. Recently, he is conducting projects on how older citizens interact with novel technologies.
