Department of Biomedical Engineering

Biography

Prof. HU Xiaoling is an Associate Professor in Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU BME). She received her Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Hu had the research interests of robotic IoMT for telerehabilitation, artificial intelligence and data technology for automated theranostics, innovative wearable technology, neural engineering for smart ageing and translational research in stroke rehabilitation. Her research team is a leading group in designing hybrid robots for automation in stroke rehabilitation. They have invented the technology with integrating neuromuscular electrical stimulation and robot (NMES-robot) in one system for more effective neural stroke rehabilitation. It receives significant recognition from the industry and have been commercialized in Hong Kong and Mainland China for rehabilitation services with public and private healthcare sector. In 2025, her team has won the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 Innovation Award in the Accessibility and AgeTech category at the CES 2025 held in Las Vegas, United States by the innovation of the Mobile Ankle-foot Exoneuromusculoskeleton - a multimodal robot rehabilitation specifically aimed at fostering the motor function and walking ability of stroke patients.
