Biography
Prof. CAO Jiannong is the Otto Poon Charitable Foundation Professor in Data Science and the Chair Professor of Distributed and Mobile Computing at the Department of Computing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He is also the Dean of Graduate School, Director of Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Things (RIAIoT) and University’s Research Facility in Big Data Analytics (UBDA) respectively.
Prof. Cao's research interests include distributed systems and blockchain, wireless sensing and networking, big data and machine learning, as well as mobile cloud and edge computing. His exceptional research capabilities have earned him numerous accolades, including the PolyU President Award for Excellent Performance/Achievement in Research and Scholarly Activities, the Ministry of Education Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards – Natural Science (Second Class) and the China Computer Federation (CCF) Overseas Outstanding Contribution Award. He has also been recognized on the list of the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists by Stanford University in 2022 and 2023.
In addition, Prof. Cao is a member of Academia Europaea, an ACM Distinguished Member, and a Fellow of IEEE and the China Computer Federation (CCF). He has successfully secured competitive research grants from various funding bodies, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China (MOST), Alibaba, IBM, Nokia, the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and the Hong Kong Construction Industry Council.
